Working alongside the Director of Junior Hockey and Junior Development Leads, the Age Group Lead Coach will lead the weekly training sessions and Sunday fixtures for their respective age group. Availability for midweek training and Sunday fixtures is essential.
Old Georgians HC are looking to recruit enthusiastic, inspiring, and skilled coaches to join our Junior coaching team. The club has gone from strength to strength in recent years and caters for players of all abilities and levels of experience, from beginner to Premier League. We have recently appointed double Olympian, Ian Sloan, as the Director of Junior Hockey as well as recruiting Team GB Paris 2024 Men's captain, David Ames, as Junior Development Lead. This will be a great opportunity to work alongside them and enhance your coaching.
Hours:
• A minimum of 1.5 hours each week (usually 3 - 4 hours each week including Sunday fixtures).
• This role could be combined with other club roles, working with other age/gender groups in an assistant coach capacity or within the senior section. It could also include coaching within the junior summer programme sessions.
Coaching Rate:
• From min. £25 per hour to be negotiated with the club, dependent on knowledge, experience, and linked to coaching qualifications.
Responsibilities:
1. Culture and environment – To provide opportunity for all players to learn and to reach their potential, in a safe, inclusive and enjoyable environment.
2. Training: To deliver fun and engaging sessions for junior players, with the ability/flexibility to adapt to ensure that all players get an appropriate level of stretch and/or support.
3. Fixtures: To select the teams and coach weekly fixtures, with the help of the Team Manager and assistant coaches.
4. Reporting: To raise any welfare concerns with the Club’s Welfare Officer.
Requirements:
1. EH Sessional Coach Award / Level 1 qualified (or equivalent).
2. Valid Safeguarding & Protecting Children certificate (UK Coaching) (desirable).
3. DBS enhanced check (must be completed before appointment can be confirmed).
4. Right to live and work in the UK.
Knowledge & Experience:
1. Experience of working in a junior performance environment (desirable).
2. Familiar with England Hockey’s Future Talent Strategy and Talent Development Framework (desirable).
We are looking for coaches to start at the beginning of January 2025. We are also open to speaking to candidates who would be interested in starting in September 2025.
