SUMMARY:
Coordinators at NEKCA lead and organize across multiple programs and providers to integrate and streamline services throughout our agency and with regional partners. Coordinators are highly collaborative and great communicators. They are responsible for facilitating program and regional meetings and implementing human-centered programming across all levels of programming. This position is a Coordinator for the Restorative Justice Programs in the Community and Social Justice Department that supports participants in creating a plan that reduces the risk of re-offending.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
1. Perform intake per requirements of NEKCA/grantor. Determine and verify eligibility for all applicants in accordance with program requirements.
2. Collect and report all data accurately and timely into GoEngage to meet program requirements and deadlines.
3. Assess participants in crisis to determine immediate needs and develop a plan for response, including referrals (interagency and external).
4. Work with Procurement Specialist to resolve any discrepancies.
5. Review AP Ledger for accuracy for 1099s, includes amount, EIN, and address.
6. Attend and participate in staff, agency, and service provider meetings deemed necessary for job performance.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Provide appropriate support to participants when they encounter challenges to their plan and within the community.
2. Practice an appropriate balance between support and accountability.
3. Communicate with partners and providers in an effective manner.
4. Document program progress and data.
5. Work with volunteers who are an integral part of the COSA and mentoring programs.
6. Accept referrals for COSA and Navigation from the Department of Corrections and other sources, including self-referrals from potential program participants and follow up as appropriate.
7. Develop a simple plan, with the participant, which outlines needs and actions and supports choices that reduce the risk of re-offense.
8. Facilitate all intake interviews and complete appropriate paperwork.
9. Conduct needs assessments both in correctional facilities and at the office.
10. Assist participants to prioritize their needs and goals and to access the services and supports necessary to meet them.
11. Participate in or facilitate trainings, state-wide peer meetings, and COSA trainings.
12. Work with the program manager to encourage volunteers to attend COSA trainings which may be pertinent to their work; provide ongoing support to volunteers as needed.
13. Facilitate COSA meetings and submit notes to DOC and COSA Team.
14. Support participants in maintaining successful program participation.
15. Recruit, screen, train and match COSA volunteers with appropriate core members, being mindful of creating a team with identities that will support and encourage growth and accessibility for the core member.
16. Collaborate with local and central office Department of Corrections staff to ensure timely and appropriate referrals for COSA.
17. Participate in weekly COSA meetings and meeting debriefs with volunteers.
18. Meet with potential participants at the correctional facilities, explain program expectations and benefits, obtaining signed releases of information.
19. Immediately report any violations of conditions of reentry program participants to the supervising Probation Officer and NEKCA supervisor.
20. Support victims of crime and harm, helping them navigate the criminal-legal system, advocating for services when they experience barriers, and connecting them to processes, goods and services that will enhance their safety and lessen the impacts of their crime. Provide support and validation to affected parties whether or not they choose to participate in a restorative process.
21. Work in coordination with Victim Services Specialists to integrate restorative processes, when needed or appropriate.
22. Stay current in practical knowledge of the theories, practices, and methodologies in the fields of restorative and transformative justice, trauma-informed care, leveling power dynamics and all matters related to equity, justice, and inclusion.
Core Competencies:
1. Must have excellent communication and interpersonal skills. Must be able to maintain good relations with participants, other staff, and members of the community.
2. Must have knowledge of basic computer skills and record keeping, including spreadsheet applications.
3. Proficiency in Microsoft Office products and database management systems.
4. This position is considered a mandated reporter.
5. Must be responsible, self-motivated, self-initiated, may need to work flexible hours (program dependent).
6. Demonstrate positive problem-solving skills in stressful situations.
7. Demonstrate the ability to work effectively as part of a team.
8. Demonstrate familiarity with, and sensitivity to the challenges faced by low-income individuals, and some knowledge of the community and available resources to address them.
9. Maintain confidentiality.
10. Complete all required trainings and professional development.
Requirements
Education and Experience:
BA (preferred)
1-2 years relevant experience required
3-4 years preferred
Background Checks:
Employees in this role are required to undergo a background check in accordance with NEKCA policy, which may include verifying education, employment history, criminal background, and driving records.
Transportation Requirements:
This position requires that employees possess a valid driver’s license, favorable driving record results, and have access to dependable transportation. This position may require transportation of participants.
WORKING CONDITIONS:
Employees in this position work primarily in an office environment with moderate noise levels and controlled temperature conditions. The work involves sitting for extended periods of time, using a computer and other office equipment, and may require occasional lifting of up to 25 pounds. Position has occasionally bending, stooping, or reaching for items. Standing or moving around the office area.
