Smart Education is currently recruiting for a Home Tutor to support a pupil with a diagnosis of PMLD.
Brief Overview of the role
Smart Education is seeking a compassionate and experienced Home Tutor to provide personalised educational support to a pupil with Profound and Multiple Learning Difficulties (PMLD) in their home environment. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in working with pupils with additional needs and a thorough understanding of PMLD. Experience with communication methods is highly desirable to effectively address the pupil's communication challenges. The tutor will be responsible for creating and delivering tailored educational activities that align with the pupil's specific learning requirements, promoting engagement, and supporting their overall development in a safe and nurturing environment.
Person Specification
The ideal candidate will hold Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or an equivalent teaching qualification and have proven experience as a tutor or teacher, particularly in one-to-one or small group settings. Experience working with children with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND) is highly desirable. The candidate should possess a strong knowledge of the national curriculum and the ability to tailor lessons to meet individual student needs. A deep understanding of various teaching methods and strategies, especially for students with SEND, is essential. Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, are required to effectively engage with students, parents, and other professionals. Personal attributes should include patience, empathy, and a strong commitment to supporting the educational and personal development of each student. The ability to build rapport and maintain positive, professional relationships with students and their families is crucial. The candidate must be highly organized with excellent time management skills, capable of managing multiple tasks and responsibilities efficiently.
Qualifications & Experience
1. Either possessing an enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check on the update service or being willing to obtain one.
2. Understanding of and experience with Safeguarding practices.
3. Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or equivalent teaching qualification.
4. Proven experience working as a tutor or teacher, ideally with a focus on one-to-one or small group settings.
5. Experience working with children with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND) is highly desirable.
