The team… The Customer & Revenue Growth team brings together a diverse group of individuals with backgrounds from across the industry, including Owning Groups, Train Operating Companies (TOCs), Transport for London (TfL), Network Rail and consultancies. The high-performing team provides expertise in revenue strategy, analysis and forecasting as well as insights, marketing, and brand. We are playing an increasingly proactive role in driving short-term revenue and planning for long-term revenue growth, enabling us to deliver a financially sustainable railway. The Analysis team works on a diverse set of high-profile analytical and economic projects, including the evaluation of pricing changes and other revenue growth initiatives. Recent projects include the econometric evaluation of the National Marketing Campaigns and the review of recent national seat sales. The job… We are looking for an Economist/Analyst to join our Customer & Revenue Growth team to provide analysis, evaluation and forecasting of a range of high-profile industry initiatives that could drive revenue benefits to the rail industry of millions of pounds. You will lead work packages while working closely with other teams within GBRTT, Network Rail and DfT to deliver high quality economic analysis, including gathering evidence from industry sources and partners; and assessing the evidence in the form of impact evaluations. This will include the application of analysis techniques such as regressions and econometric evaluation methods. The role will involve the forecasting and evaluation of a wide range of initiatives, including fares changes, promotional campaigns and service changes. You’ll communicate your analysis clearly, verbally and in writing. This includes briefing senior internal and external stakeholders and decision-makers, contributing to plans and reports for dissemination to the wider industry, and producing presentations for internal and external stakeholders. What we need from you… Educated to degree level, preferably in economics or finance, or equivalent relevant experience. Experience in designing and applying statistical and/or economic evaluation and forecasting methods such as regression or econometric analysis, either in an academic or workplace context. Experience in analysing and manipulating large datasets - candidates would ideally have experience of working with commercial and/or transport sector datasets and in the use of SQL or equivalent databases Excellent stakeholder management and communication skills. Familiarity with analytical best practice approaches with ability to run complex models and build simple models, utilising automation where possible to ensure your work is both repeatable and scalable. Ability to work at pace and adapt to emerging priorities whilst delivering work to a high degree of assurance. Demonstrable experience of drawing clear insight and recommendations from a complex dataset and experience of articulating complex topics to non-specialist audiences. This role is available on a Fixed Term Contract or Secondment basis for 12 months.
