We are seeking to recruit an enthusiastic and motivated Band 4 Medical Secretary to join our secretarial team in the Breast Department based at Solihull Hospital. The successful candidate will be a key member of the team, taking a lead role in supporting consultant(s) and the surgical team by providing a professional and high-quality secretarial and administrative service. You will play a pivotal role in ensuring our patients are actively monitored and supported throughout their pathway.
Key Responsibilities:
* To touch type from audio the following documents: clinical letters; results letters. This requires an understanding of medical terminology, phraseology, and medications, as well as high levels of concentration. Many documents may be of a complex or distressing nature.
* Actioning all documents and booking appointments as instructed by the consultant body. Ensuring patients are listed for our weekly Multi-Disciplinary Meetings when required.
* To provide a complete confidential general and medical secretarial service for the Consultant(s) team. To be responsible for the organisation of meetings, preparation of agendas, and taking of minutes. All work to be carried out on own initiative, without direct supervision and to tight deadlines, to achieve trust standards and targets.
* Knowledge and use of various Microsoft Office Software programmes including Outlook, Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Access (database) to produce clinical letters and other relevant correspondence. Daily use of the hospital intranet to provide information for Consultants, GPs, and patients on forthcoming appointments, admissions, and results of investigations.
* Monitoring of consultant annual leave and diary management.
* To provide day-to-day supervision to secretaries/clerical officers, allocating and monitoring work.
* Provide and be responsible for the training of medical secretary trainees.
Minimum Qualifications:
The successful candidate will ideally hold the following qualifications: GCSE or equivalent pass in English language, RSA III typing/word processing, and the AMSPAR diploma or equivalent.
