We are offering a rare opportunity. Our Adult Speech and Language Therapy Service has recently been awarded funding by PDUK to run a project titled 'Establishing a swallowing assessment and rehabilitation programme for patients with Parkinson’s disease using FEES, EMST and traditional swallow rehabilitation.' This post has arisen from non-recurrent funding associated with the project and maternity leave. There is potential for the post to become permanent once further funding is established.

Main duties of the job
This unique post offers a motivated SLT the following CV-building opportunities:
* Participating in a full quality improvement project with support from the organisation’s QI lead and senior therapists.
* Developing FEES competencies and a domiciliary FEES service.
* Developing highly specialist skills in managing patients with Parkinson's Disease in line with NICE guidelines.
* Assisting with reshaping our care home offering, including reviewing service delivery models and data capture.
40% of the post will be associated with delivering the PD project and 60% will be focused on developing our care home offering. We will consider applications for part-time candidates wishing to work 2 or 3 days in either project. Postgraduate training and experience in dysphagia and independent dysphagia management are required. Relevant experience in managing adults with acquired swallowing and communication difficulties is essential.
You will contribute to audit, QI, and service development, receiving regular clinical supervision, support through team meetings, monthly clinical forums, and access to further CPD opportunities. Evidence of appropriate qualification and HCPC membership is essential. Driving/car access is an essential requirement for this post.

Qualifications
* Recognised speech & language therapy degree qualification or equivalent.
Training
* Evidence of Continuing Professional Development.
Experience
* Experience working clinically as an SLT with adults with acquired communication and swallowing disorders.
* Evidence of independent caseload management.
* Evidence of independent management of a dysphagia caseload.
* Experience working with adults who have neurological conditions.
* Experience participating in quality improvement/audit/service development.
* Experience of FEES.
* Experience working with people with Parkinson's Disease.
* LSVT trained.
* Experience supporting students/assistants.
Personal Qualities
* Good team worker, showing initiative and responsibility.
* Positive attitude and passion for SLT and patient care.
* Current UK driver’s License/Car driver with access to own car for work purposes.
Professional Registration
* Health and Care Professions Council Licence to practice.
* Registered member of Royal College of Speech & Language Therapists.
Skills
* High competence in managing communication patients.
* Independently assess and manage patients with dysphagia.
* Competence in handling emotional and psychosocial aspects of a complex SLT caseload.
* Knowledge of national policies relevant to the specialist patient group.
* Knowledge of appropriate therapeutic interventions for dysphagia and communication.
* Knowledge of clinical governance principles.
* In-depth knowledge of national policies relevant to the specialist client group.
