We currently have an outstanding opportunity for a highly motivated Echocardiographer to join our dedicated and friendly team at the Lancashire Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust. The Trust is based across two sites, Preston and Chorley Hospitals and this post will include work within the brand new Preston Community Diagnostic Hub.

Training and supervision will form part of this role. We have recently appointed a trainee associate practitioner. You will be responsible to mentor, provide training, development and support of this candidate.
You must have proven post-registration experience with a BSc (Hons) Degree qualification in Cardiology or equivalent. You should have extensive experience as a senior cardiac physiologist and must have RCCP and BSE Accreditation.
Main duties of the job

The post-holder will be responsible for all trainee highly specialised cardiac physiologists working in this area.
The post-holder will be a highly skilled cardiac physiologist working as an independent practitioner to directly deliver patient care and well-being.
To lead/mentor colleagues working towards successful BSE accreditation
We are a self reporting centre with BSE Laboratory Accreditation for transthoracic and transoesophageal echocardiography. The successful candidate will work mainly in performing and reporting adult transthoracic echocardiograms but will also contribute to the provision of other clinical measurement services, if required.
You will be responsible for assisting in the day-to-day running of the service, and perform the wide range of investigations. We are also hoping to extend our services with the permanent additions of stress, 3D imaging and tissue Doppler. This is a new post created to support the increasing demand outlined above and the proposed plans for our echocardiogram services
About us
We perform both invasive and non invasive studies within the Trust performing 16,000 transthoracic, 200 Transoesophageal and 90 contrast and bubble studies per annum. We also have an Open Access Heart Failure Service for our local GPs, established in 2002, performing 800 studies last year. The Trust is also a tertiary centre for nephrology, neurosurgery and cancer services where our echocardiography service is utilised prior to and post treatment for patients.
We have five Consultant Cardiologists and currently serve a population of 390,000. We are a teaching hospital and actively participate in the training of SpR's and Registrars.

2. To ensure that performance of their duties and clinical practices conforms to agreed national policies and procedures, which reflect current scientific and technical knowledge and principles of practice according to guidelines of the respective professional bodies.
3. To perform, unsupervised, all routine non-invasive techniques/investigations of the department and provide advice and/or reports to clinicians.
4. To be able to perform, unsupervised, advanced non-invasive techniques/investigations of the department and provide advice and/or reports to clinicians on the appropriateness of diagnostic investigations.
5. Ability to provide a range of complex facts, analysis and interpretation to all areas of investigation within the Cardio Respiratory Department.
6. To produce complex reports as an independent practitioner in echocardiography
7. To assist Consultant Cardiologist in routine and complex procedures.
8. Observation and recording of cardiac physiological measurements. To provide accurate measurements and factual reports.
9. To perform first line resuscitation with defibrillation.
10. To provide immediate real time diagnostic information to medics and advise the need for any further tests.
11. To assist in audit procedures of the service.
12. To assist in diagnostic studies utilising TOE, pericardiocentesis, bubble contrast and stress echo studies, if required.
13. To assist in the performance of 3D and TDI examinations as the service develops
14. To perform follow up procedures as a competent, independent practitioner
15. To provide an out of hours on call service
16. To assist in piloting new service developments in echocardiography
17. To interpret and report clinical results within all investigations performed by the department.
18. To assist the Manager in the production of audit, review and quality assurance

Education & Qualifications
Essential
20. Appropriate Science Degree (or equivalent
21. ILS (minimum)
22. BTEC/HTEC (MPPM) or equivalent
23. BSE adult accreditation
24. Registered member on the Council of Clinical Physiologists
Desirable
25. ALS or equivalent
26. Teaching certificate/Assessors Award
27. Post grad Studies in relevant field
Knowledge & Experience
Essential
28. 2 years experience in Echo, including TOE, Bubble/Contrast studies.
29. High level of specialist knowledge in areas of non invasive cardiology
30. Knowledge across all aspects of Cardiology
31. Advanced broad base of theoretical and practical specialist knowledge in cardiology
32. Specialist knowledge in legislation for COSSH, RIDDOR, Health and Safety in invasive cardiology
33. Proficient in teaching other grades of staff in all aspects of technical cardiology
34. Proven experience in planning and organisation of staff training, meetings and conferences, and, if required, work based assessor sessions
