Job Description Ultra Precision Control Systems (PCS) are looking for a Support Engineer to support the delivery of engineering work as part of a team, working under the guidance of senior staff and within the wider context of the business. They will develop and apply their engineering skills to take ownership of and manage multi-disciplined engineering tasks and responsibilities within time, cost, and quality constraints, in support of any reasonable request from internal departments within the whole of PCS as well as the ongoing technical support of external customers through to a successful conclusion. An engineer at this level will have a good understanding of their own discipline, able to handle complex problems and will apply their technical / professional knowledge and experience to make independent judgements and support decision making. They should also be open to new challenges involving tasks outside of their area of expertise. Key Responsibilities: Develop solutions and solve problems within own discipline. Work under minimal supervision to deliver allocated engineering tasks on-time, on-quality and on-budget. Provide on-the-job training/support to new team members. Writing reports and presenting work undertaken at peer and design reviews. Develop engineering competence under the guidance of more senior engineers, and plan for professional development. Demonstrate and adhere to the Ultra ASPIRE values at all times. Occasionally carry out duties off-site as required. Adhere to Ultra policies, procedures, and practices at all times. Carry out any other duties as reasonably required by management. Understand the requirements and needs of customers and strive to achieve common goals. Required Skills & Experience: Relevant qualifications to an appropriate level, typically a Bachelor’s Degree, completion of a recognised apprenticeship, or equivalent experience within an Engineering discipline. Capable of reading and laying out drawings to British and International Standards as necessary and following the company’s own Draughting Standard Manual Awareness of electrical wiring, electronic assembly handling, mechanical pneumatic systems functions Designs and details mechanical assemblies and has an awareness of designing for manufacture and production processes. Understands mechanical, electromechanical and pneumatics design. Has some production process experience. Ability to deal with customers and suppliers to achieve a common goal Knowledge of PLM and ERP systems an advantage Knowledge of 2D/3D drawing packages an advantage Possess knowledge and understanding of engineering fundamentals, processes, standards, procedures, tools, and systems to be applied in carrying out assigned engineering tasks. Possess a basic understanding of engineering fundamentals in disciplines outside area of specialty (i.e., Manufacturing) Ability to generate and amend technical documentation (i.e., similarity reports, Salvage Schemes, Engineering investigations, offsite visits) Solve problems, making evaluative judgements on the basis of factual information and precedents. Demonstrate strong technical communication skills. Respond positively to change and adapt quickly to dynamic situations.
