Job overview
A position has arisen for an enthusiastic and motivated advanced podiatrist to join our friendly and progressive team. The Advanced clinician will take high level responsibility for the triage, clinical assessments and diagnosis of highly complex health and well-being needs within a defined sphere of practice. This role will have a focus on biomechanics/offloading and will also need wound care skills and experience. They will implement, evaluate and modify highly complex care/interventions which they have developed to meet those needs. Leading their Podiatry Team on the management of patients with the most complex podiatric needs. The post holder will lead on the development and implementation of service innovations within their portfolio as well as the development and dissemination of training to the Podiatry Team. Performance management will form an integral part of this role. A departmental visit is encouraged prior to interview.
Main duties of the job
1. Lead a team of podiatrists and podiatry assistants supporting the service lead in daily delivery of the service.
2. Providing leadership, promoting a learning culture for colleagues and other agencies, leading service innovations and demonstrating high level problem solving.
3. Driving innovation, managing the change process to ensure services continue to be flexible and proactive to reflect the needs of the wider Health and Wellbeing community.
4. To be responsible for the escalation of patients presenting with complex conditions outside the scope of practice (expertise/knowledge/skills) to a more experienced clinician or consultant.
5. To be professionally and legally responsible and accountable for all aspects of your own work including the management of patients/service users in your care.
6. To undertake self-directed/lone working in a variety of locations.
7. Manage clinical caseloads efficiently and effectively.
8. Where indicated and following completion of the relevant training, the practitioner will act as a non-medical prescriber, at all times working within their sphere of clinical practice.
Working for our organisation
We operate from three main hospitals: Furness General Hospital (FGH) in Barrow, the Royal Lancaster Infirmary (RLI), and Westmorland General Hospital (WGH) in Kendal, as well as a number of community healthcare premises including Millom Hospital and GP Practice, Queen Victoria Hospital in Morecambe, and Ulverston Community Health Centre.
FGH and the RLI have a range of General Hospital services, with full Emergency Departments, Critical/Coronary Care units and various Consultant-led services.
WGH provides a range of General Hospital services, together with an Urgent Treatment Centre, that can help with a range of non-life threatening conditions such as broken bones and minor illnesses.
All three main hospitals provide a range of planned care including outpatients, diagnostics, therapies, daycase and inpatient surgery. In addition, a range of local outreach services and diagnostics are provided from community facilities across Morecambe Bay.

Person specification
Education & Qualifications
* BSc (Hons) Podiatry or equivalent
* Certificate in Local Anaesthesia
* HCPC Registration
* MSc modules in podiatric medicine or Diabetes related modules
Experience
* Post-graduate NHS work experience including experience treating high risk patients
* Teaching/training of colleagues/students/health care professionals/patients/public
* Working in a multidisciplinary team and liaison with other health care professionals
* Demonstration of evidence based practice and awareness of latest clinical developments/research
Skills, Ability & Knowledge
* Advanced knowledge of high-risk patient care (assessment, diagnosis and treatment/management) e.g. diabetes, peripheral vascular disease, and biomechanics, wound care. Gained through postgraduate study, CPD, experience and/or rotation packages
* Advanced knowledge of ulcer and wound dressings, and Vascular/Doppler ultrasound interpretation
* Advanced knowledge of biomechanics and offloading in the high risk and ulcerated foot
* A working knowledge of medical, radiological and surgical interventions
Personal Attributes
* Must be able to travel to meet the needs of the service
* Good interpersonal skills – effective listening/speaking skills appropriate to the needs of the recipient; communicating complex information
