Job Title: Access Decommissioning Engineer
Location: South East / key site is Lewisham
About the Role:
We are seeking a skilled and experienced Access Decommissioning Engineer to join our team. The successful candidate will play a crucial role in auditing, identifying, and decommissioning transmission circuits and voice switch sites. This role requires in-depth knowledge of telecommunication networks and hands-on experience with decommissioning activities.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Conduct audits of transmission rings to assess decommissioning requirements.
2. De-jumper voice circuits on decommissioned voice switch sites.
3. Identify live transmission circuits to support migration or consolidation efforts.
4. Assist with migration or consolidation of circuits as required.
5. Decommission transmission rings efficiently and safely.
6. Power down decommissioned transmission racks following standard procedures.
7. Assist with power isolation of transmission racks in coordination with relevant teams.
8. Engage with TXO projects to arrange for the recovery of decommissioned transmission racks.
Required Knowledge & Skills:
1. Strong understanding of PDH/SDH technologies with experience in vendors such as GPT (EMOS), Marconi, Nokia, Nortel, and ECI.
2. Experience with transmission management systems and digital cross connects.
3. Proficiency in IDF/MDF cabling, jumpering, and co-ax.
4. Ability to troubleshoot 2 Meg circuits effectively.
5. Hands-on experience with CMUX configuration.
6. Familiarity with Access & Core Telephony Networks.
7. Knowledge of Virgin Media Network (ideal but not essential).
8. Understanding of PCM theory, voice switching, data networks, and network topologies.

1. Previous experience in a similar role within the telecommunications sector.
2. Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
3. Excellent communication skills to collaborate with different teams.
4. Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
