Provide comprehensive track asset management and engineering support to the Regional Engineer and their team focussing on compliance and assurance of the track asset across the Region.
This post is an opportunity to work in the newly formed Regional Engineer (Track & Lineside) team. Following the recent devolution of engineering and asset management activities to the Routes, the Wales and Western Regional organisation needs to step up its role in providing assurance of the Routes activities. This post will be an important part of the track team, analysing the outputs being achieved by the Routes, carrying out assurance activity and other investigative work. This will involve working collaboratively with both Wales and Western Routes to identify opportunities to improve outputs including safety, reliability, and compliance, all with the objective of improving the Regions delivery to our customers. A broad understanding of the track asset will be needed. Experience in data analysis and/or relevant auditing would be an advantage.
About the role (External)
Your Main Responsibilities will be to:
1. Provide [Compliance] [Track] systems engineering input to the determination of appropriate engineering maintenance regimes and activity volumes for [Compliance] [Track] assets in accordance with company policies, standards and specifications. Providing necessary assistance to determine compliance with suitability and robustness of maintenance regimes.
2. Provide a comprehensive systems engineering support service across the [Compliance] [Track] asset base throughout the route and across delivery units as and when required. Monitor and strive to improve the technical competence of engineers associated with [Discipline] systems engineering in the delivery units.
3. Provide technical briefings associated with [Compliance] [Track] systems engineering to engineers in delivery units in order that the purpose, as well as the content of standards, specification, etc. is understood.
4. Review and make recommendations on derogation and non-compliance applications to [Compliance] [Track] systems engineering related standards.
5. Review and monitor progression of potential improvements to [Compliance] [Track] systems from delivery units; provide feedback to the originators.
6. Carry out asset condition inspections that will inform the [Compliance] [Track] asset condition database and the renewals work bank. Lead initiatives, as directed, to improve.
7. Provide advice and guidance to the delivery unit and other asset engineers in the production of prioritised business focussed [Compliance] [Track] systems renewal proposals.
8. Participate in, and lead as directed, [Compliance] [Track] engineering activities in support assurance processes including the maintenance audit programmes and engineering verification.
9. Monitor the reliability and performance of [Compliance] [Track] systems related assets across the route and instigate, lead and participate in the implementation of corrective actions to improve as required.
10. Contribute to the development and maintenance of route asset management plans.
11. Participate in investigations of incidents as required.
12. Contribute to the development of revised standards and policies relating to [Compliance] [Track] assets.

· Incorporated Engineer
· Degree in a relevant subject or equivalent
· Membership of relevant professional institution
· Substantial [Compliance] [Track] engineering experience
· A detailed understanding of the maintenance of [Compliance] [Track] assets
· A sound knowledge of the relevant technical, safety and performance standards
· Holds relevant professional licences and technical qualifications, or capable of achieving within reasonable timescales
· Holds valid UK driving licence, or eligible and willing to obtain
