When working at the QVH, you will be fully supported by our clinical team, as we want to help you grow and develop your skills when you join our orthodontic team. We are expanding and following internal promotions we are now looking for an Orthodontic Therapist who has transferable skills who wishes to expand their experience in treating complex patients in our hospital unit.
Our team supports patients who need complex orthodontic care and this input helps us deliver treatment plans for both orthodontic and orthodontic/surgical patients. We recognise that these specialist areas of clinical care in the provision of multidisciplinary treatment delivery may be a little daunting, but our clinical leaders will ensure that you are supported at every appointment to help you in your treatment clinics across the working week.
You will get some unique experiences and will also support the multidisciplinary clinics we hold. Opportunities exist for the successful candidate to be involved in cleft, hypodontia, complex dento alveolar and orthognathic jaw surgical clinics. Here, our senior team develop treatment plans for these patients and this will give you a unique insight into this aspect of hospital orthodontic care.
Main duties of the job
The post holder will be responsible for providing highly specialist orthodontic care and to contribute to the clinical management of patients requiring orthodontic treatment under close supervision, working in collaboration with QVH clinical orthodontic team which has a blend of staff in training and those in permanent employment too. He/she will follow treatment plans in close liaison within the orthodontic team undertaking, for example, fixed and removable orthodontic appliance treatment, emergency orthodontic care and clinical record taking.
The post holder will be involved with patients who have had significant, often life-changing, facial surgery either with the jaw surgical or cleft teams. As a result, the post holder will need to work with the clinical team to help to make sure the patient is able to understand the complexity of their care and some of the impacts of surgery including dental and facial changes.
The post holder will also be responsible for maintaining high standards of clinical care with reference to relevant research and evidence-based practice. They will also practice to a level of competence as directed by the General Dental Council. They will keep up to date adhering to CPD and appraisal protocols.
Alongside these clinical skills, we are looking for an inspirational and compassionate colleague who will join in with our departmental initiatives and with their professional colleagues based at the QVH and beyond.
