We are seeking to appoint an enthusiastic and motivated Senior Bioinformatician to assist in the analysis of human tumours and functional cancer models in our group. While the specific objectives will vary by project, an overarching aim will be to help define the mechanisms and consequences of immune evasion by MHC dysregulation in cancer, building on our longstanding interests in genomic instability and tumour immunology (e.g. Cornish et al. Nature 2024, Frei et al. Lancet Oncology 2024, Glaire et al. J Pathol 2022). The data for analysis will principally include DNA and RNA sequencing (WGS, WES, transcriptomics) of bulk and single cells, methylation as well as other modalities (e.g., spatial transcriptomics, proteomics, immunopeptidomics) as part of an integrated multimodal analysis.
You will provide bioinformatics expertise, support, and teaching to a multi-disciplinary team of biological, computational, and clinical researchers by curating and processing raw 'omic and spatial biology data and performing hypothesis-led and hypothesis-generating analyses. You will be supported in career development and encouraged to apply for personal funding to advance this, should you desire.
You will be responsible for identifying, defining, and planning new projects which contribute to the overall aims of the work, and for developing informatics structures to manage large datasets, including the organisation of data storage and repository solutions that meet current publishing standards. You will identify and troubleshoot technical or scientific problems, working collaboratively with other bioinformaticians, database experts, and scientific programmers, and maintain detailed state-of-the-art knowledge of genome analysis of all types, and train as necessary on a continuing basis in methods of genetic and statistical analysis.
It is essential that you hold a PhD/DPhil in Biostatistics, Mathematics, Statistics, Computing, Mathematical Biology, or a related subject, and have demonstrable experience, ability, and practical success in biostatistics or bioinformatics. You will be proficient in the use of statistical programming languages such as R/BioConductor, and you will have experience of developing scientific techniques. Knowledge of cancer biology/genetics would be highly desirable for this role.
