Job Introduction
BBC Education exists to transform lives through education. That clear vision drives everything we do as we lead the overall education strategy for the BBC.
Our aims are to:
• Provide every child in the UK with a personalised learning experience through BBC Bitesize.
• Support and inspire classroom learning with world-class, curriculum linked programming.
• Help ensure children and young people have the resources and opportunities they need to thrive through campaigns such as BBC micro:bit - the next gen and 500 words.
The mini campaigns team creates engaging short form learning content to attract diverse, new audiences and inspire them to engage with Education platforms. We update and refresh content using formats that are quick, clickable, relevant and informative. The team specialises in filming and editing their own content, bringing new talent to Education and has excellent contacts internally at the BBC as well as with external partners.
Our content reflects Education priorities including BBC Bitesize and showcases successful collaborations on pan BBC initiatives and with BBC Education partners.
Main Responsibilities
• Edit content for output on social media and web, using Adobe Premiere Pro
• Liaise with celebrity agents to arrange shoots
• Arrange location film shoots, dealing with multiple organisations
• Film on location, either second or first camera depending on the shoot
• Write shooting scripts for location films
• Write scripts for talent to record or briefs for contributors
• Manage relationships with internal and external partners
• To promote content from across the department, old and new, across the BBC estate, with partners and on our own platforms
• Feed into and pitch ideas for Mini Campaigns
• The ability to drive would be preferable due to the amount of location shoots the team undertakes
Are you the right candidate?
You will have excellent communication skills with solid experience in dealing with contributors, agents and external organisations. You will be able to edit clips and VTs using Adobe Premiere Pro and will be able to shoot on at least one camera. Strong time management is crucial as we often have more than one Mini Campaign running at once and you will be expected to arrange your workload accordingly to deliver content to the highest standard. Experience of location filming is key, along with arranging filming permits and other location permissions. A willingness to develop a passion BBC Education and its brands would be very beneficial. Most importantly, you'll be a team player. Due to the nature of our projects we need to be flexible, sometimes changing plans at short notice and responding to topical events/fast-turnaround requests. We're a small team and rely on each other to be highly organised and committed to getting the job done. You'll be supportive of your colleagues and collaborative in your approach to work.
About the BBC
The BBC is committed to redeploying employees seeking suitable alternative employment within the BBC for different reasons and they will be given priority consideration ahead of other applicants. We want to attract the broadest range of talented people to be part of the BBC - whether that's to contribute to our programming or our wide range of non-production roles. The more diverse our workforce, the better able we are to respond to and reflect our audiences in all their diversity.
We are committed to equality of opportunity and welcome applications from individuals, regardless of age, gender, ethnicity, disability, sexual orientation, gender identity, socio-economic background, religion and/or belief. We will consider flexible working requests for all roles, unless operational requirements prevent otherwise.
