Job Opportunity: Early Years Outdoor Manager
Are you passionate about the benefits and choices of indoor and outdoor learning for young children? Do you want to play a pivotal role in shaping the future of our company? We have a recent opportunity for an Early Years Outdoor Manager at our 21-place nursery, conveniently located on the perimeter of Edinburgh Airport and the Highland Show Centre.
About Us:
Little Flyers operates four nurseries across Edinburgh and West Lothian. We believe in the value of blending indoor and outdoor experiences to create a well-rounded, enriching learning environment that offers balanced opportunities and choices for all our children.
Our Ingliston nursery features the largest rural outdoor space, and we are currently applying for a variation to increase our capacity. We seek a dedicated, innovative individual to lead our indoor and outdoor expansion, which includes the installation of a Yurt or wooden cabin.
As members of SOLA (Scottish Outdoor Learning Association), we encourage collaboration with other providers and organisations that promote outdoor learning, particularly in preparation for the upcoming Outdoor Practitioner Festival in October.
The Role:
As the Early Years Outdoor Manager, you will be responsible for designing and implementing a comprehensive indoor and outdoor learning curriculum that encompasses a wide range of activities. You will play a key role in shaping the growth of our nursery, making crucial decisions that directly impact the development and well-being of our children and staff.
You will also influence the expansion and development of our Ingliston nursery, promoting and sharing best practices across all Little Flyers settings and with their management teams.
Key Responsibilities:
* Oversee the day-to-day management of the premises and services, working closely with the Senior Management Team and directors.
* Possess extensive knowledge of curriculum development and high-quality childcare practices, ensuring that educational provision aligns with frameworks such as Realising the Ambition, My World Outdoors, Growing My Potential, and My Active World.
* Efficiently manage systems, registers, fees, and rotas.
* Handle the ordering of food, lunches, and appropriate resources while maintaining cost control.
* Lead service developments to the highest standard, ensuring the smooth running of the nursery at all times.
* Ensure adherence to compliance, maintaining required standards, ratios, and conditions of registration.
* Commit to continuous professional development for yourself and your team.
Qualifications and Experience:
* Minimum of 2 years of experience in coaching and managing nurseries.
* Relevant qualifications such as HNC/HND in Childhood Practice or SVQ 4 (Children and Young People) - SCQF Level 9.
* Registration with the SSSC at practitioner level within 3 months of employment and a commitment to completing required post-registration training and learning (PRTL).
Working Hours:
* Full-time position, 37.5 hours per week, offering a positive work/life balance to meet the needs of the company and service users.
* Starting salary of £28,275, with potential for higher earnings based on knowledge, experience, and the ability to support other areas within the company.
