The Orchards ward is a 16 bed acute assessment unit providing mental health care for older adults with acute functional or organic mental health needs.
Our aim is to deliver evidence based nursing care ensuring people are treated with kindness, dignity and respect by providing a caring, responsive, effective, well led and safe environment.
The team consist of a consultant psychiatrist, nurses, occupational therapists and assistants, health care workers, psychologists and other external services who attend the ward when requested.
• Assess patients by discussing their mental health conditions with them
• Provide treatment to patients and ensure medications are correctly administered
• Work to understand the source of patients’ disorders
• Conduct one-on-one therapy sessions
• Prepare patients’ records and maintain them effectively
• Conduct risk assessments on patients
• Monitor their progress with their family
• Ensure all legal requirements are complied with.
