Our business
Wholly owned by the Eric Wright Charitable Trust (a registered charity that supports charitable activities throughout the North West), a career with the Eric Wright Group represents a very unique opportunity.
The Eric Wright Group operates in a number of sectors across the North West region specialising in the provision of award-winning design and construction, civil engineering, multi-disciplinary engineering and construction, project and design management and facilities management services and works, alongside the property development, property management and partnerships companies. The profits generated from its activities are either retained in the business to support future growth or distributed to the charitable trust to support our local communities. As such, the Group has a very real sense of purpose and social responsibility at its very core.
The Group is supported by a dedicated in-house legal department that is committed to providing a comprehensive range of non-contentious construction & engineering and commercial property & development legal services to an excellent standard. It also advises on general commercial contracts (principally for the facilities management and project and design management companies), aspects of corporate governance and provides some company secretarial assistance.
The opportunity and what we can offer
We are very excited to welcome a full-time Construction and Engineering lawyer of 2 years + PQE to join our in-house legal team based at our Head Office at Bamber Bridge, Preston, which is ideally located very close to the motorway networks, off the M65 and M61.
This is an exciting opportunity for a qualified solicitor who ideally has a few years of prior experience of working in construction or engineering (whether in-house or in private practice), to work alongside other professionals in a very busy, mature, dynamic and supportive environment and to develop knowledge and gain first-hand experience of the industry in real-time whilst providing assistance to our construction and engineering teams, added to which is the ability to be involved in live projects from inception right through to completion.
The construction and engineering projects that we see are based predominantly on amended versions of the JCT and NEC standard forms, with professional team appointments, novation agreements and warranties and security documents tending to be more bespoke in nature. The commercial contracts for our facilities management and project and design management divisions tend also to be bespoke documents and sometimes take the form of LIFT and PFI style contracts. Our multi-disciplinary engineering and construction division works within the water industry and is appointed across a number of large framework agreements that are renewed periodically.
The successful candidate will manage their own workload, with support from the wider legal team. There will be scope to develop expertise in construction and engineering projects by working closely alongside relevant divisions of the business on a variety of schemes across the different sectors in which our businesses operate and by assisting the Group Construction and Engineering Solicitor on more complex construction-related matters as well as general commercial contracts. As such, we can offer good career progression to the right candidate.
