Our Client is seeking a talented and motivated Systems Developer to join their Computer Support Staff team. As a key member of the team, you will provide essential support to both staff and students in the Computer Science department. This full-time, established role offers a dynamic and rewarding opportunity in an academic setting.
Your primary responsibilities will include database analysis, data modeling, and software development, all aimed at enhancing the department's business information systems. You will also work on system integration with other departments/units.
Main Responsibilities will include:
Gather system requirements and develop tailored system solutions.
Advise on deployment and integration of systems supporting the department's operations.
Prepare system development project proposals and manage the scheduling and approval process.
Ensure smooth operation of database and web server systems.
Plan, implement, and test user interfaces for academic and administrative support systems.
Develop complete systems, from data models through to user interfaces.
Create comprehensive documentation for both technical and end-users.
Provide technical support and development assistance.
Take ownership of web and information systems incidents and implement solutions.
Communicate system changes and improvements and gather feedback.
Promote best practices in system development and usage.System Details:
You will be competent using MySQL although the core database systems are generated using a unique model-driven tool. With sound knowledge of a standard Linux/Apache/Tomcat infrastructure setup. You will work closely with the various support teams to ensure systems integration.
The successful candidate will have:
Significant experience with web technologies, including HTML, CSS, JavaScript, HTTP, XML, and XSLT.
Experience with writing and maintaining Java programs (preferably using Eclipse).
Proficiency in developing web applications using JSP.
Experience in preparation of development requirements.
Understanding of entity relationships.
Strong communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to explain complex technical concepts to non-technical users.
Proven ability to prepare detailed development requirements.
Problem-solving skills and the ability to work independently with minimal supervision, or as part of a team
Previous experience in a similar role, either in an academic or research-driven environment would be beneficial.This hybrid role is paying between £19.80 and £24.00 per hour, dependent on experience. You will be required on-site for 3 days per week (to include a Thursday) and is initially for a 6 month period, with the possibility of extension.
