We’re a global engineering, management, and development consultancy.
Our purpose is to improve society by considering social outcomes in everything we do, relentlessly focusing on excellence and digital innovation, transforming our clients’ businesses, our communities and employee opportunities.
A fundamental part of this is respecting each person’s differences and striving to meet their needs.
About the business unit
The Energy unit delivers services to clients globally across several sectors including hydropower, nuclear, waste, renewable generation and transmission & distribution networks. Together we provide integrated engineering and project management services across the project lifecycle – from concept and design to construction and operations, to decommissioning or repowering and life extension. Together with our clients, we’re helping to deliver the energy transition globally.
About the role
Our Energy unit has an exciting opportunity for an Air Quality Consultant to join their growing team located in one of our Brighton, Bristol, Manchester or Edinburgh offices. You'll have the opportunity to be involved in projects not only in the UK but internationally across a variety of sectors including energy, transportation and advisory.
Our recent international air quality projects have been in countries such as Ireland, Australia, Hong Kong, Qatar, Vietnam, Barbados, the USA and the UAE. Our energy projects span from CCGT, energy from waste to biomass, diesel and gas engines, whilst our transportation projects include aviation, rail and highways. We are involved in providing technical advice to a range of clients, such as lenders, who are either looking to develop or acquire assets globally.
With us, in addition to delivering air quality assessments for UK planning and permit applications and EIAs, you will undertake large scale air quality projects on behalf of governments, international financial institutions and private banks. You’ll be responsible for providing country-wide policy advice, monitoring and modelling. It would be great if you also had experience with international energy projects, but don’t worry if not as you’ll get on the job practical experience and we’ll always provide you with plenty of support.
James will be your manager: “We have a vibrant, supportive and technically excellent team with great projects lined up. You’ll be working on UK planning and permit applications, EIAs, nationally significant infrastructure projects as well as international development schemes”.
About you
We are looking for someone with some past experience who is able to undertake assessments with guidance and support from more senior team members. We are looking for a candidate with suitable academic qualifications such as a Degree or Masters in a relevant subject.

Experience in modelling transport related emissions as part of air quality assessments for planning applications and EIA is going to be essential.
* Suitable academic qualifications such as a Degree or Masters in a relevant air quality related subject
* Demonstrable experience of working on a range of air quality projects following best practice guidance.
* Experience using internationally recognised dispersion models such as AERMOD, ADMS and ADMS-Roads in at least one specific sector (energy, transportation, oil and gas).
* Experience in using geographical information (GIS) systems
* Experience in writing proposals
* Fluent in English (spoken and written) with excellent written communication skills
* Knowledge of a variety of monitoring approaches for a range of pollutants
* Experience of developing emissions inventories on a regional basis
* Experience using OpenAir and Python
* Experience working on large infrastructure projects as part of a collaborative multi-disciplinary team
