Youwill join our well-established Childrens Occupational Therapy servicewhich supports children aged 0-19 years. You will work in providing support tothe Neonatal Unit at Sunderland Royal Hospital. You will be a key part of our childrensOT service and will have opportunity to develop your clinical and leadershipskills. You will be predominantly based in our Sunderland site providing careacross both Sunderland and South Tyneside areas. As a team we work together toprovide the best service we can whilst striving to develop staff who are ourkey asset to improve patient outcomes. You will have excellent support and bepart of a wider AHP neonatal team and the Childrens Integrated Therapy Serviceteam too. You will be well-supported both locally and also via the NorthernNeonatal Network. You will align to our vision and values to improve patientoutcomes and develop our workforce.
Main duties of the job
You will be based inSunderland as part of our Childrens OT team that covers South Tyneside andSunderland. You will be integral in developing the service to and providing supportinto the Neonatal Unit at SRH, supporting continuing care within the OccupationalTherapy department and all community settings.
You will have:
A comprehensive knowledge and experience within Paediatrics includingpre-term babies and children with complex presentations.
Experience of Paediatric assessment and management of pre-terminfants.
Knowledge of the Education Health and Care Plans (Children andFamilies Act 2014).
Experience and a working knowledge of safeguarding.
The ability to work both within a OT team and the wider MDT.
Youwill also be keen to develop the AHP OT neonatal service and share and developthe skills of others in this area. This is an excellent opportunity to work ina team across our patch with other specialist clinicians to develop the AHPoffer within our neonatal unit to support infants and families. You will berequired to meet the travel requirements of this Post.

Job responsibilities
The Postholder will work within the multi-disciplinary team including Nursing staff, Medical team, other Allied Health Professionals and support staff. This may also include any teams involved in care of babies who have received neonatal care who require further in-patient care within Sunderland Hospital.

24. Comprehensive experience within Paediatric Occupational Therapy at senior level incorporating experience within a range of specialisms within Paediatric Occupational Therapy to include Neonatal care.
25. Some management/leadership experience.
26. Experience of policy / practice development in specialist area.
27. Experience and high-level of skill in the use of and interpretation of a wide range of appropriate standardised formal and informal assessments and with a wide range of therapy approaches for client groups in service areas.
28. Experience of supervising all levels of qualified Occupational Therapy staff, Assistants and students.
29. Experience in designing and delivering training and education programmes to other professionals/ students/parents.

Qualifications

32. Evidence of extensive CPD and up to date knowledge within Paediatrics and relevant to the specialism eg neonatal care, early intervention achieved through post-graduate, specialist, advanced short courses, conferences (MSc equivalent).
33. Registration with the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC).
34. Highly-specialist knowledge of specialist assessment tools relevant to Paediatric Occupational Therapy.
35. In-depth knowledge of a range of appropriate therapeutic assessments and interventions & an ability to compare & contrast relative benefits relevant to Post.
36. An ability to critically appraise new ideas / approaches to therapy.
37. Knowledge of the structure and functioning of the NHS, and how the Trust fits into the wider picture.
