Job overview
This is an exciting new role based at the Royal Derby Hospital (RDH) working as part of the expanding Pharmacy Education and Training Team - there may also be the expectation to work across other Trust sites at times. The successful applicant will also be required to support the departmental weekend and bank holiday rota.
The role involves being responsible for the delivery and recording of dispensary-based education and training of Pre-registration Trainee Pharmacy Technicians, qualified Pharmacy Technicians and support staff. This includes being a part of the ongoing transformation and forward plans of the Pharmacy Business Unit, by training and supporting present and future extended roles for Pharmacy Technicians and support staff.
This is a fantastic opportunity for an individual who is willing to learn, is highly organised and has a keen interest in helping others develop new and existing skills. Being adaptable is a key quality - the successful applicant must work well under pressure, have good problem-solving abilities and have a supportive attitude towards helping learners. This will involve working as part of a friendly team, and also working alone at times.
Main duties of the job
The main duty of this role is to deliver and record dispensary-based education and training. To organise such training, the successful applicant will be required to develop good working relationships with other Pharmacy departments throughout the Trust.
This will include duties such as delivering the training, monitoring each learner's progress through in-house validation periods, arranging additional support for learners who encounter difficulties, and maintaining/storing accurate records of such training activities.
To develop a positive culture toward learning in the work environment, we would expect this individual to be a positive role model and mentor at all times.
As this role involves regularly supporting new learners, the successful applicant must show by their attitude that they value the personal development of others, and that they are committed to helping learners meet their training needs.
Day to day duties will also include using the various Pharmacy systems to dispense and accuracy check prescriptions, as well as counselling patients. An individual interested in this role must be competent in such areas, or have a keen willingness to work towards achieving such skills in the future.
There will also be opportunities to support in developing new training materials and programs when needed within the department, while working along with the Education and Training Team.
