Electrical Engineering Degree Apprenticeship Programme
Murphy is offering an exceptional opportunity for ambitious technically minded individuals who are looking to embark on the first step in an Engineering career. We are looking for outstanding individuals to join our Power Project Engineering teams, who utilise Digital Design knowledge to produce high voltage substation and cable system designs. This apprenticeship offers the opportunity to gain invaluable engineering experience, with on-the-job training and mentoring from Principal Engineers in all engineering disciplines of Substation and Cable system design on major construction projects in the UK for Transmission and Distribution Network operators.
Our degree apprenticeship programme offers you the chance to secure a university degree debt-free, whilst gaining invaluable on-the-job experience. Your tuition fees for this degree will be paid for by Murphy and you’ll also be earning a competitive apprenticeship salary.
Training and mentoring will be provided by Principal Engineers, and the wider engineering teams. Your responsibilities will increase throughout the duration of your Apprenticeship as your skills and technical knowledge develop. This will be your start on a path of Professional development towards becoming a Chartered Engineer.
Key responsibilities will include:
1. Working on engineering projects from 11kV to 400kV to support the UK Transmission and Distribution networks.
2. Learning to use Autodesk Revit, Navisworks, AutoCAD and other design packages, such as Solid Works and Comsol.
3. Producing circuit diagrams for Digital Automation System designs and Power Cable System designs.
What qualification will I receive through the apprenticeship?
As part of this apprenticeship, you will follow the Electromechanical Engineering Degree Level 6 apprenticeship standard which takes 5.5 years to complete with one of our partner universities. Through the apprenticeship you will work towards achieving a BEng (Hons) Electromechanical Engineering degree.
Where will I be based on the apprenticeship?
We are recruiting for this apprenticeship for various projects across the UK. Due to the remote locations of some of our sites, applicants must be willing to travel as required.
What do I need to be considered for the apprenticeship?
1. GCSE Maths and English at grade A*- C / 4-9 (or equivalent).
2. 3 A Levels minimum grade AAA which must include Maths and a Physical Science subject. Applicants with strong profile but without A level Mathematics will be subject to passing appropriate assessment.
3. BTEC Diploma grade D*D*, with an A grade A level Mathematics or subject to passing appropriate assessment in mathematics.
4. BTEC Extended Diploma grade DDD including two Mathematics units or subject to passing a Maths assessment.
You don’t need to have previous experience for the role, but you do need to be ready to learn, have a positive mindset and a can-do attitude!

Our recruitment process consists of three stages:

2. Online interactive exercise.
3. In-person assessment centre (which start from February 25).
