We are seeking a confident person with a mixture of hands-on engineering skills and digital/design abilities to work in this unique position with our client based in the beautiful Essex countryside not far from Colchester.
This is a permanent, full-time role and is an opportunity for somebody to develop a niche skill set and build a career in an interesting industry, eventually becoming a true craftsperson.
Working from 9am-5:30pm Monday to Friday, applicants will need their own transport due to the rural location. The annual starting salary is £27,500 per annum.
The Company
Our client is a well-established niche business with around 20 members of staff. Their small and happy team have an outstanding reputation in their field and count many household brand names amongst their clientele.
Working in the beautiful Essex countryside, you’ll be in a pretty and rural location, working with a friendly and dedicated team.
The Job
Based within a 2-person department, working closely with the artwork team, you’ll be in the company’s workshop and will be responsible for taking customer’s designs and creating machined dies out of brass plates.
With training and guidance (both in house and external, if required) you’ll be using Adobe’s Creative Suite, CNC machines, and hand tools such as bandsaws, Dremel’s and sanders to do the job. This job is a mixture of hands-on, physically demanding metal work and desk-based computer work programming the CNC machines and preparing files for machining.
Ideally, this person will grow with the business and want to become a real master craftsperson further down the line.
Requirements
* A background in mechanical engineering, gained from either college/university, an apprenticeship or from a hobby-related pastime which involves working with metal.
* Previous experience using hand tools to finish metalwork projects.
* A background in computer-based design, or brilliant IT proficiency. Unfazed by learning new packages including Adobe Creative Suite packages.
* An interest in digital design and understanding how to interpret CAD drawings.
* A willingness to work hands-on with metal.
* A fantastic eye for precision and detail.
* Able to follow instruction and training, but ultimately happy to work very independently.
* Confidence and calmness; able to ask questions, find solutions, follow production schedules and remain unflappable.
* A willingness to drive forward own skills and professional development by attending company-funded courses/training and committing to on-the-job learning.
* A desire to master the craft by demonstrating persistence and attention to detail.
* A friendly ‘can do’ attitude with great communication skills.
