The weekly timetable will be tailored according to the experience and educational needs of the individual. The successful applicant will have passed the MRCP PACES examination. Experience in cardiology at registrar level will be an advantage but not a pre-requisite. Previous experience in cath lab skills or echo is not expected. The out of hours responsibility is 1:10 for acute cardiology with cross cover for general medical ward problems in respiratory and gastroenterology, working alongside a medical SpR and a MOPRS SpR. Out of hours work is supported by a team of advanced clinical nurse practitioners as well as junior doctors. Trainees from the renal training scheme are frequently seconded by their deanery to the team and AMU trainees have taken out of programme experience to take up this post. The post is particularly well suited to a candidate wishing to improve their clinical skills in cardiology as well as their experience in audit, research, service development, echo and cath lab skills prior to taking up a national training number in cardiology. Previous holders of this fixed term training post have frequently been successful in this regard. There may be an opportunity for a trainee with appropriate experience to take up one of our specific training fellowships.
