Birmingham City Football Club is seeking an experienced and proactive Head of Procurement to oversee and manage all procurement processes across the club's operations.
You will provide strategic leadership for the Procurement function across the Club, aligning procurement activities with the club's needs and growth.
You will possess strong commercial acumen, as well as the ability to manage relationships with external suppliers and partners. You will play a key role in the planning and implementation of procurement strategies to ensure smooth and efficient operations for both the football and business sides of the club.
Key Responsibilities
Strategic Leadership
1. Create the strategic plan for procurement across the Club
2. Ensure buy-in from the leadership team and key stakeholders, ensuring their needs are reflected in the strategy
3. Turn vision into reality through clear implementation roadmaps
Procurement Management
1. Oversee the management, sourcing, and procurement of all goods and services within the club, ensuring they are aligned with the organisation's needs and business goals
2. Monitor supplier performance, conduct regular reviews, and resolve any issues to ensure optimal delivery of goods and services
3. Develop and implement procurement policies and procedures to ensure cost-effectiveness, quality, and compliance
Implementation of New Procurement Strategies
1. Lead the planning, sourcing, and roll-out of new procurement strategies across multiple areas, ensuring seamless integration with existing operations
2. Collaborate with various departments to identify their procurement needs and implement strategies that enhance operational efficiency and effectiveness
3. Design tender processes and market research qualified bidders to drive optimal value and strong delivery outcomes
4. Work closely with external suppliers and partners to coordinate the procurement of goods, services, and solutions
5. Work closely with the Head of Legal and Governance to drive contracting standards and reduce risk
6. Support work on system changes to automate procurement processes
Supplier & Vendor Management
1. Manage relationships with external suppliers and service providers, ensuring that contracts are fulfilled and that services meet performance and service-level agreements (SLAs)
2. Regularly evaluate external partnerships and identify opportunities to improve services or reduce costs
3. Manage supplier contracts and negotiations to optimise value and mitigate risk
Security & Compliance
1. Oversee the procurement security framework for the club, ensuring processes are secure and comply with relevant laws and regulations (e.g., data protection, GDPR)
2. Regularly assess and implement protocols to protect against procurement risks, fraud, and breaches
Technical Support & Training
1. Provide procurement-related support to staff and management, ensuring minimal disruption to daily operations
2. Organise and oversee the training of staff in procurement systems, processes, and best practices to enhance efficiency and productivity
Budgeting & Cost Management
1. Manage the budgeting and forecasting for procurement-related expenditures, ensuring the efficient allocation of resources and monitoring costs effectively
2. Analyse and report on procurement spend, identifying opportunities for cost savings
What we’re looking for in you
1. You’re comfortable moving between strategic and tactical items
2. Proven experience in a senior procurement role, preferably in large-scale business environments
3. Strong commercial knowledge of procurement processes, supply chain management, and contract negotiation
4. Experience in managing procurement activities across multiple sites and locations
5. Knowledge of procurement systems, supplier management, and contract law
6. Familiarity with procurement regulations and compliance practices (e.g., GDPR, public procurement)
7. Strong leadership and team management skills, with the ability to communicate effectively with both technical and non-technical stakeholders
8. Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to prioritise tasks under pressure
9. Proven ability to manage relationships with external vendors and service providers
10. Strong budget management experience and cost-consciousness
Desirable Qualifications
1. Relevant certifications such as MCIPS or equivalent
2. Experience in the sports industry
3. Experience within a stadium or sporting environment
4. Knowledge of supply chain optimisation, contract law, and risk management.
