Job Description:
We are looking for a dedicated and compassionate SEND Teaching Assistant to join our dynamic team, a welcoming and inclusive primary school located in Hindley. As a SEND TA, you will play a vital role in supporting pupils with special educational needs and disabilities, ensuring they access the curriculum and achieve their full potential. This is a rewarding opportunity to work closely with students who require additional support in a nurturing educational environment.
Key Responsibilities:
* Provide tailored support to students with SEND, both in and outside the classroom, in a variety of subjects and activities.
* Foster a positive and supportive learning environment by using differentiated teaching strategies to meet individual learning needs.
* Help with personal care, mobility, and other physical needs where necessary, following the school’s safeguarding procedures.
* Support students during group work, one-on-one sessions, and extracurricular activities.
* Collaborate with class teachers, SENCo (Special Educational Needs Coordinator), and other staff to monitor and track the progress of students.
* Assist with the preparation and modification of learning resources and activities.
* Contribute to the development of strategies to support students’ social, emotional, and behavioural needs.
* Support the inclusion of students in school activities, helping them to integrate socially and academically.
* Ensure students' safety and well-being at all times, following safeguarding protocols.
* Maintain clear and accurate records of students' progress, including observations and feedback.
Key Skills & Qualifications:
* Previous experience working with children, preferably in a SEND role (this can be voluntary work).
* A strong understanding of SEND, including autism, dyslexia, ADHD, and physical disabilities.
* Level 2 or Level 3 Teaching Assistant qualification (or equivalent) is desirable.
* Knowledge of child development and the ability to adapt teaching methods to suit individual needs.
* Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build strong relationships with students, staff, and parents.
* Patience, empathy, and a genuine passion for working with children with additional needs.
* Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
* A proactive approach to problem-solving and creativity in supporting students’ learning.
* A commitment to continuous professional development.
* A current DBS (Disclosure and Barring Service) check or willingness to undergo one.
Desirable:
* Experience in supporting students with specific conditions such as autism, physical disabilities, or learning difficulties.
* Knowledge of using assistive technology to support learning.
* First Aid training or a willingness to undertake relevant courses.
