About this role
The main purpose of this role is to ensure the delivery of Passive Fire Protection Projects, with regards to established service offerings within the passive fire protection team, through effective planning and management.
The appointed Passive Fire Protection Consultant will be expected to ensure that projects are delivered to specification, within the established time frame and budget.
The Passive Fire Protection Consultant will be expected to be an expert within the organisation regarding fire safety matters and in particular passive fire protection. In addition, the appointed person will be responsible for supporting the department’s growth through the training of new recruits and Associates.
In conjunction with the Technical Passive Fire Protection Project Manager, the job holder will ensure that all client works are delivered in accordance with contractual requirements and to the highest level of quality.
With the support of the wider organisation, the appointed person will be expected to continue to develop their competencies and areas of expertise, to ensure client confidence and to continue to grow the service offering, in line with building safety guidance and regulations.
Role objectives
The Passive Fire Protection Consultant is accountable for assisting the Operations Manager to provide significant contribution to the operational and commercial performance of the passive fire protection team.
The appointed Passive Fire Protection Consultant will be responsible for the delivery of projects such as Fire Door surveys, compartmentation surveys and measured surveys, with the support of the Technical Passive Fire Protection Project Manager and will assume responsibility of the Technical Support Team and sub-contracted Associates. The role will focus on successful establishment, delivery and closure of projects, ensuring both client, business and end user needs are met.
Responsibilities include:
* Operational Performance – you will ensure the achievement of all agreed quality standards to support the delivery of key business objectives, service plan objectives and contractual obligations with all clients.
* Commercial Performance – you will contribute to the achievement of all agreed financial performance targets (turnover, gross profit and net profit) through the achievement of agreed productivity targets for you.
* Project Planning – you will contribute to the planning and development of projects. This involves activities such as assisting the Senior Project Manager with gathering information required to prepare estimates and attending client meetings.
* Site Visits – you will be expected to carry out site visits, to gather the information required to contribute to different phases of the individual projects.
* Interpreting Documentation – the appointed person will be expected to utilise various compliance / regulatory documents, such as Approved Document B, to act as an expert for clients, identifying areas of noncompliance and offering advice to achieve the required compliance.
* AutoCAD Activity – you will be required to utilise AutoCAD to produce professional drawings, such as passive fire protection related Drawings, to contribute to the passive fire protection projects.
* Project Management – you will be expected to contribute to the coordination and management of projects, and to keep track and report project progress.
* Customer Relationship Management – you will foster positive, productive and long-lasting relationships with each of your delegated client accounts. You will provide an operational point of client contact. As a result, you will have responsibility for providing advice to these clients on all aspects of building safety and for management of the relationship and contract that exists with these clients, by instigating regular contact with these clients.
* Health & Safety – you will embed a strong health and safety culture within your projects through appropriate induction, Risk Assessments, and mobilisation briefings. You will also ensure all aspects of our health and safety framework are implemented and adhered to.
* Quality Assurance – you will take part in our robust auditing processes and instil a compliance culture with the Building Safety projects. You will undertake the quality assurance audits of the Technical Support Team and Associates to support our approach to quality control and ensure that learning is applied and embedded from audit results.
* Training – as part of your personal development you will be expected to complete tasks assigned by the Senior Project Manager, such as training recruits within our ever-growing Passive Fire team.
Key skills and experience
* Holding a passive fire protection qualification, such as IFE Level 2/3 in Passive Fire Protection or the NOCN Level 2 NVQ Diploma in Associated Industrial Services Occupations - Passive Fire Protection, you will provide expert technical support to your colleagues, clients and other stakeholders.
* With experience of managing passive fire protection and fire safety projects, including but not limited to compartmentation surveys and fire door Inspections, your project management skills will allow you to develop, plan and deliver projects on time, within budget, within the scope and to the quality required.
* Detailed knowledge of relevant guidance and regulations, such as Approved Document B, Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005, Fire Safety Act 2021, BS9999 and BS9991, will allow you to ensure our clients understand their compliance requirements and maintain safe properties and buildings.
* Proficient use of AutoCAD and measured survey software will enable you to provide exceptional floor plans and drawings for our clients. (Desirable)
* You will have experience of using digital management software including, but not limited to, Bolster, Boris and Safety Culture, so that you can accurately and efficiently monitor survey activities across your projects.
* You will be experienced in implementing guidance with regards to fire strategy drawings and will be able to respond to queries from clients.
* You will be able to liaise effectively and professionally with all key stakeholders about their queries and concerns or updates they require.
* You will already be a member, or aspiration to become a member of, a recognized industry body, such as IFE, ASFP, RICS or IFSM.
