The role of this Personal Care Assistant
Our personal care assistants join our client’s support team, providing reliable, essential care and support in their home. You will be employed by HomeCareDirect on behalf of the client and your focus will be to support them only. This role will be to work 30 hours a week, between the hours of 8am and 8pm.
About the Client and Duties
Our client is a 33-year-old gentleman with a brain injury and multi-sensory impairment (MSI). You will join his support team to help him reach his full potential, providing the security he needs to access information, communicate effectively, and navigate his environment safely.
Your assistance will enable him to engage in learning, vocational and social activities, helping him participate more fully in his community and the wider world.
You will work closely with his family and other professionals involved in his daily life, delivering a structured exercise regime based on his physiotherapy program. The goal is to build his confidence, encourage friendships and ensure his days are filled with meaningful and enjoyable experiences.
Additionally, you will support him in developing independence by encouraging participation in everyday tasks such as food preparation, household chores and planning his daily activities. This role requires a dependable, confident, fun and caring support worker who prioritises effective communication in all aspects of care.
As this role involves being the ‘ears’ for our client to ensure his safety and support, applicants must have full hearing ability. Previous care experience is essential, particularly in supporting individuals with epilepsy and using complex communication methods. A driving licence is desirable, as is experience with BSL or Makaton. However, as part of your induction, you will be required to complete training in either BSL or Makaton if you have not previously done this.
Training and Support:
We provide comprehensive, paid training to CQC standards covering:
• Full induction
• Safeguarding Adults
• Health & Safety / First Aid / Food Hygiene
• Moving & Handling
• Catheter Care / Personal Care
• 5-Day Intervenor Training
• Epilepsy Awareness
• 1 Day BLS or Makaton Training via Teams
All training must be completed before the start date, with training hours paid at minimum wage.
Requirements:
• This post is exempt under The Equality Act 2010 Schedule 9 Part 1 – there is a genuine occupational requirement to recruit male workers only
• Previous care experience supporting clients with epilepsy
• It is essential that you have an understanding of the complexity and implications of multi-sensory impairment
• Knowledge off BSL and/or Makaton is desirable
• Good IT skills
• Ability to support the client within the community
• Commitment to long-term, person-centred care
• You must be reliable, compassionate and committed to respecting confidentiality
