Job Responsibilities
1. Providing assessment, screening and treatment services and health education advice.
2. Following agreed protocols, provide general practice nursing treatments to patients alongside other clinical colleagues, within skill set and competency. Treatments may include (not exhaustive):
o Dietary advice
o Blood pressure checks
o Urinalysis
o Dressings
o ECG
o Phlebotomy
o Routine injections
o Contraception
o Minor injuries
o Routine immunisations and vaccinations
o Removal of sutures / clips
o Baby immunisations
o Assisting with the fitting of IUCD / IUS
o First registration checks
3. Organise and coordinate the provision of nursing services for the practice to include the delegation of duties to other members of the practice nurse team as appropriate.
4. Provide general and specific health screenings and advice to practice patients (within agreed protocols) with referral to other clinicians as necessary.
5. Complete chronic health condition clinics (Diabetic, COPD, Asthma, Heart, Kidney and Liver disease, etc.) including providing testing, diagnostic, health advice and management advice of such conditions.
6. Undertake the collection, storage and despatch of pathological specimens including intravenous blood samples, swabs, smears etc., and ensure the cleanliness of any equipment so used.
7. Perform any investigatory procedures requested by other clinicians within scope of role.
8. Participate in the administrative and professional responsibilities of the Practice team.
9. Ensure accurate notes of all consultations and treatments are recorded in the patients notes on the clinical computer system as appropriate.
10. Ensure accurate completion of all necessary documentation associated with patient health care and registration with the Practice.
11. Ensure collection and maintenance of statistical information required for regular and ad hoc reports.
12. Assist in the formulation of Practice philosophy, strategy and policy and develop appropriate protocols.
13. Participate in the education, induction and training of students / new staff where agreed, within scope of role.
14. Maintain effective liaison with other agencies and staff concerned with patient care and with all other disciplines within the Practice, with appropriate regard to confidentiality.
15. Comply with the practice Safeguarding Policy by:
o Addressing any safeguarding concerns in line with practice policy.
o Undertaking level 3 safeguarding training at agreed intervals.
o Participating in practice safeguarding meetings.
o Conducting self in a manner which shows a commitment to keeping children and vulnerable adults safe.
16. Assist in promoting and maintaining their own and others health, safety and security as defined in the Practice Health & Safety Policy.
17. Support the equality, diversity and rights of patients, carers and colleagues.
18. Participate in any training programme implemented by the Practice as part of this employment.
19. Strive to maintain quality within the Practice.
20. Recognize the importance of effective communication within the team and strive to communicate effectively with other team members, patients, carers and other stakeholders.
21. Apply Practice policies, standards and guidance, demonstrating an understanding of how standards and guidelines affect own work.
22. Participate in audit where appropriate.
23. Support the practice to achieve contractual requirements, such as Local Improvement Schemes, QOF, etc.
24. Support the practice to develop services / patient offer.
25. Work in a manner which demonstrates an understanding of legal requirements / obligations related to nursing in general practice.
