Job Description OOH ECC Veterinary Surgeon – 7 Nights On, 14 Off Location – Leeds Salary – £55,000-£60,000 DOE Contract Type – Permanent Hours – OOH, 7 Nights On, 14 Nights Off, 8pm-8am We are looking for an enthusiastic OOH Veterinary Surgeon to join our team at our 24/7 hospital in Leeds. This position has become available as our current vet is relocating to Southern Ireland. This role involves working 7 nights on, followed by 14 nights off, with shifts running from 8pm to 8am. You’ll work alongside an experienced OOH RVN and OOH VCA, with additional support from reception staff until 10pm and twilight RVN support until midnight. The salary for this position is between £55,000 and £60,000, depending on experience. You will also have in-house support from certificate holders in surgery, medicine, and dentistry, and we offer an annual CPD allowance of £1,500. We are happy to support vets who wish to locum elsewhere during their 14 days off. As an advanced practice, we expect our night team to be proficient in delivering key emergency procedures, with training and support available. These procedures include oesophageal tube placements, Seldinger chest drain placements, silicone abdominal peritoneal drains, pig tail urinary catheters, TFAST and AFAST scans, endoscopy, negative pressure wound therapy, and urinary catheterisation. Our night team regularly performs caesareans, pyometras, exploratory laparotomies with enterotomy and enterectomy. On the medicine side, we frequently handle Addisonian crises, diabetic ketoacidosis cases, and severe pancreatitis cases. Our hospital is equipped with state-of-the-art technology to provide the highest level of emergency care. This includes Procyte haematology, Catalyst Dx, EPOC, coagulation tests (APTT/PT), and a range of diagnostic tools such as Angio/Felv/FIV/Giardia/Parvo/Lepto tests. We are well-prepared for transfusion medicine and lipid tests, and our imaging capabilities include digital x-ray, advanced ultrasound with Doppler, and access to a visiting CT scanner for follow-up investigations. We also have flexible video gastroscopy, bronchoscopy, a video otoscope, and rigid scope. Our dental suite is equipped with dental x-ray and CR7 developer, and we utilise multiparameter monitors that include ECG, capnography, temperature, SpO2, and blood pressure monitoring, alongside Doppler BP and ECG.
