Job Purpose: To act as an autonomous practitioner, providing high quality Podiatric care to patients in a variety of settings. A high proportion of treatments will be to patients classified as high risk.
This role is 9-5, 5 days a week.
Main duties of the job
1. To carry out regular Nail Surgery sessions on a rotational basis with other members of the Foot Health Department.
2. To liaise with members of the wider multidisciplinary team including General Practice and District Nursing, ensuring seamless delivery of care and providing advice and education within this forum, acting as a highly skilled practitioner in their own professional field.
3. To continually review patient progress and refer as necessary to other health care professionals and podiatry clinical specialists to ensure appropriate care is provided.
4. To provide where necessary a technical annual assessment for 'high risk' patients (particularly Diabetes) including the use of Doppler and neurothesiometers.
5. To perform to a high level of dexterity the physical skills required in the care of lower limb disorders. The ability to analyse complex information to decide a range of treatment options. These skills include the use of scalpel and diagnostic tests/equipment.

Job responsibilities
1. To provide specialised treatments with the appropriate skills and knowledge, where a high degree of manual dexterity, precision, hand/eye co-ordination and good sensory co-ordination is required.
2. To autonomously assess and diagnose patients with a diverse range of medical and podiatric conditions, working within professional codes of practice and guidelines, using appropriate diagnostic techniques, skills and instrumentation, both within general podiatry and in the specialist field. Guidance may be provided by a senior clinician when necessary.
3. To have the ability to assess patients with very high risk factors, considering all the complexities of the patients' condition.
4. To create and implement tailored treatment and specialised care plans using a variety of appropriate treatment regimes for a range of patient groups including those in the high risk category, focusing on the management of primary foot pathologies and to evaluate and review treatment outcomes and implement discharge policies.
5. To adopt a problem-solving approach, engaging patients and carers in their treatment plan, negotiating on agreed outcomes, gaining consent and educating users on self-care.
6. To provide general and specialist foot health advice, including the care of the at-risk and high-risk foot. To provide information on the signs and symptoms of pedal manifestations of systemic, chronic and acute diseases.
Person Specification
Education/Qualification
* BSc Degree In Podiatric Medicine or Diploma (if qualified prior to 1991)
* Evidence of continual professional and personal development
* Registration with the Health Professions Council
* Certificate in local anaesthesia
* Evidence of post-graduate training in a specialist area of podiatry
Experience
* Significant post-graduate clinical experience
* Experience of multidisciplinary and interagency working
* Experience of working in an NHS environment
* Experience of working with a wide range of patient and disease/pathology types including the at-risk and high-risk foot
* Experience of managing a team
* Experience of rota and diary management
* Experience of staff recruitment
Skills and Knowledge
* Ability to evaluate patients' concerns and needs and propose effective solutions
* Organisational and planning skills to manage your own work time and domiciliary caseload
* Knowledge of recent developments in the profession
* Understanding of Clinical Governance - theory and practice
* Data analysis skills i.e., reviewing reports

£21.88 an hour. Weekly pay will include: Basic pay + HCAS + 12.07% Holiday pay.
