Position Description
ERT is seeking a Windows System Administrator to join and help lead a technical team dedicated to the operations and maintenance of the ground systems for NOAA Office of Satellite and Product Operations (OSPO) environmental-monitoring satellite missions. Data from our missions is used in weather forecasting, climate research, forest fire detection, search and rescue, and much more. The system administrators provide onsite IT support in collaboration with government technical leads. They are instrumental in implementing new directives to build and configure enterprise tools, leverage them to maintain accurate inventory, automate monitoring, alerts, and reports, and cross-train each other to provide vital quality assurance and team integration. The System Administrator will have the following responsibilities:
1. Troubleshoot real-time anomalies.
2. Ensure accountability and proper operation of all hardware and software.
3. Set up and maintain automated alerts and reports.
4. OS and software installations, upgrades, and security patches/virus protection.
5. Hardware hot swaps and rebuild/reimaging.
6. Coordinate system modifications with the satellite operations team to avoid disruption of service.
7. Audit and maintain inventories of servers, workstations, software, and licenses.
8. Follow CM and issue-tracking processes.
9. Provide off-hour, on-call emergency support (on a rotating basis with team members; this is a rarity on the order of once every couple of months).
10. Produce internal how-to to facilitate cross-training team members.
Required Skills
3+ years of experience working as a System Administrator or similar position leading to the following:
11. Experience managing Windows and VM
12. Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to effectively gather information, report status, and record detailed task closure information.
13. Leadership/mentoring skills.
Must be able to obtain a security badge and access the applicable government facility/systems, one must be a US citizen or permanent resident and be able to pass a background investigation.
Desired
14. Expertise in batch, bash, and PowerShell scripting.
15. Experience with one or more enterprise tools: Active Directory, BigFix, SolarWinds, Axonius, Safe Console, JIRA, Tripwire, Backup Exec, ePo MacAfee, Nessus, Red Hat Satellite Server.
16. Knowledge of database administration and programming for troubleshooting in collaboration with a broader team.
Education
BS in Information Technology, Computer Science, related discipline, or equivalent.
