The Operations Manager will play a critical role in ensuring the efficient and effective day to day operation of Johnsons & Whittle Coaches. This position is responsible for overseeing all operational aspects of the business, ensuring that our services run smoothly, staff are supported, and customer expectations are met to the highest standards.
This role requires strong leadership, operational acumen, and the ability to drive process improvements to enhance overall efficiency. Reporting directly to senior management, the Operations Manager will be accountable for ensuring seamless service delivery, compliance with industry regulations, and a high standard of driver and fleet performance.
The role will involve working closely with all departments, including Engineering, Compliance, Training and Own Products, to create a well-coordinated and effective operation. In time, we are looking for the role to evolve across the Johnsons Group.
Responsibilities:
Operational Leadership
* Oversee daily operational activities for Johnsons & Whittle Coaches to ensure efficiency, compliance, and high service standards.
* Develop and implement strategies to improve operational processes and cost efficiencies.
* Work collaboratively with department managers to ensure smooth communication and coordination across the business.
* Ensure customer satisfaction by maintaining high service delivery standards.
Transport Manager Responsibilities
* Be named as a Transport Manager on the company’s Operator’s Licence.
* Ensure full compliance with all Operator Licence requirements.
* Maintain up to date knowledge of DVSA and Traffic Commissioner regulations.
* Oversee driver hours, tachograph compliance, and working time directive adherence.
* Ensure vehicle maintenance schedules and record-keeping meet legal requirements.
* Conduct regular internal audits on compliance and safety procedures.
* Act as the main point of contact for any regulatory inspections or inquiries.
* Implement and enforce policies on vehicle and driver compliance.
Driver & Fleet Management
* Ensure the efficient allocation of drivers and vehicles to maximise productivity.
* Support and manage driver recruitment, onboarding, and training in collaboration with the Training team.
* Maintain high standards of vehicle presentation, ensuring compliance with industry and company policies.
* Monitor driver performance, ensuring adherence to company standards and procedures.
Compliance & Safety
* Ensure all operations comply with relevant transport legislation and safety regulations.
* Work closely with the Risk & Compliance team to monitor and improve health & safety policies.
* Conduct regular audits of operational procedures to ensure continued compliance.
People Management & Leadership
* Lead, motivate, and support the Traffic Office and operational teams.
* Foster a positive working culture, ensuring high levels of staff morale and engagement.
* Provide clear communication and leadership to ensure staff understand company goals and expectations.
Customer Service & Performance Improvement
* Monitor customer feedback and implement changes where necessary to improve service levels.
* Drive initiatives to enhance passenger experience and operational efficiency.
* Develop and implement KPIs to track and improve operational performance.
Financial Responsibility
* Work within agreed budgets and monitor operational costs.
* Identify opportunities for revenue growth and efficiency improvements.
* Assist in budget planning and financial forecasting for the operations department.
Location and Hours of Work
Location: Johnsons & Whittle Coaches (split across both depots)
Hours: 42.5 per week (1 Hour unpaid lunch daily) (flexibility required based on operational demands)
Duty Manager Cover: Required as part of role responsibilities
