Electrical Controls Design Engineer
Due to business expansion, we are looking to recruit on a permanent basis an experienced Electrical Controls Design Engineer to join our team at the Tamworth facility. The successful candidate will support the business at supplier and customer sites when needed. The role will support all New Project Introduction activities within the business as projects require. This role is at the front line for Elite KL, joining a successful team, and is where the company's reputation is born. The position is a key role giving the candidate the ability to make a real difference to current and future business.
Responsibilities
1. General Automotive Control Design in an electrical and PLC environment
2. Use of AutoCAD (electrical) or Solidworks Electrical or similar CAD experience
3. Production of Block Diagrams/Schematic/Wiring drawings for Automotive DC HV and LV systems (motors, heaters, compressors, etc.) and associated control systems
4. Production of software controls specifications for system design, including extensive experience in CAN/LIN and SENT applications
5. Experience in specifying VCU units
6. Software structuring and testing experience for C and CODESYS
7. Software coding ability experience very beneficial
8. Experience in HMI design and implementation
9. Experience with temperature and pressure regulation with PID and suitable control loops
10. Extensive software testing and reporting experience
11. Some knowledge of typical requirements for Fieldbus Systems (Modbus and/or CAN/LIN and/or MVB and/or similar)
12. Testing and Fault finding on control systems
13. Proficient in the use of Microsoft Office
14. Production of Documents (Specifications, User Instructions, Test and Validation Reports, etc.)
15. Ability to interpret relevant BS/EN/ISO Standards and apply to system design
16. Experience of commissioning of electrical systems, controls, and panels
17. Ability to work both as an individual and, most importantly, as part of a team
18. Ability to communicate with team members, customers, and suppliers
19. A knowledge of thermal systems would be helpful but by no means essential
Typical Tasks
1. Design of Control systems mainly for vehicle thermal systems
2. Specifying of electrical and electronic control components
3. Writing software control specifications
4. Management of software suppliers to ensure delivery and customisations are managed
5. Management of the testing phase of software to ensure the system operates as specified
6. Management of customer project requirements to ensure fulfilment
7. Design and construction of simple test equipment for simulation and software testing of systems
8. Writing of User/Maintenance Instructions for Machines
9. Understanding control and power schematics
10. Assisting Sales with general design concepts, block diagrams, and costs for electrical components
11. Occasional site visits (customers and suppliers)
Qualifications
Working as part of the Engineering team reporting into a Senior Controls Engineer, you will possess the following qualifications, skills, and attributes:
1. Hold a minimum of HNC in Electrical Engineering or equivalent
2. Ideally hold a BEng in Electrical Engineering
3. Minimum of 5 years recent industry-based experience
4. Automotive DC Electrical Design Engineering
5. AC Electrical design engineering
6. Cable calculations and suitable protection circuit design
7. Able to produce calculation and reports to support design activities
8. Ideally working towards professional registration (IEng or CEng)
9. Full UK Drivers licence
10. Computer Literate advanced use of Microsoft Outlook, Word & Excel
11. Ability to carry out administration within a given deadline
12. Ability to work in areas that have restricted access (Military)
13. Experience of NPI activities
