An exciting opportunity has arisen for a job share in the role of Delivery Suite Manager to join the Maternity Team at Wirral Women and Children's Hospital. The post is permanent at 37.5 hours per week.
The Delivery Suite Manager will be responsible for leading and operationally running the main Delivery Suite area, the alongside Midwifery Led Unit (Eden Suite), the Induction of Labour bay (Harmony Suite) as well as oversight of maternity triage and maternity theatre activity.
The successful candidate will work within the wider management team, also working closely with the multidisciplinary teams across maternity to provide safe, high quality care.
The Delivery Suite Manager will be responsible for the operational running of the delivery suite, providing leadership and clinical advice, including supporting the team of band 7 shift leaders to optimise the day to day running of clinical activity as well as oversight of maternity theatres.
As part of a daily roster, the Delivery Suite manager will hold the maternity bleep and manage unit acuity and staffing across maternity, including supporting all maternity areas with any issues that arise .
Main duties:
• To provide effective and extensive leadership, expertise and advice to the Delivery Suite environment and wider Maternity Team whilst ensuring, the provision of safe and personalised care in line with best practice, local, regional and national guidance.
• Work in collaboration with the Clinical Governance Team; lead
• Consultant for Delivery Suite, the lead for Anaesthetics and for Paediatrics, to ensure the effective management of risk within the Delivery Suite.
• To ensure the safe, efficient and effective management of the service within allocated resources.
• To act as a role model and expert practitioner in order to develop both midwifery and obstetric led services.
• Accept 24 hour operational responsibility and accountability for delivery suite and provide managerial and professional support to the maternity service and undertake delegated responsibility in the absence of the Matron.
Wirral Women and Children’s Hospital provides care for approximately 3,300 low and high-risk women per year, encompassed within the unit is a Level 3 Unit for Neonatal Services, Children’s Services and Women’s Unit.

Our Midwives have a passionate philosophy for promoting individualised care and ensuring high standards of safety and birth experiences for all women accessing our Maternity Service.
The Eden Suite Birth Centre consists of five birthing rooms, two with en-suite birthing pools. In addition, a further birthing pool within the Delivery Suite provides individualised, holistic care to high-risk women along with a further eight delivery rooms.
We have a successful “pop up” MLU in the Seacombe Birth Centre and a dedicated homebirth team called the Highfield Team. We have successfully implemented 7 Continuity of Care teams with 3 more planned to achieve national targets of 100% Continuity of Care, and we have numerous specialist roles. This allows extensive scope for personal development and progression.
The post holder should have extensive experience of Delivery Suite, able to work clinically with expertise and credibility. Candidates need robust experience post-qualifying, sound knowledge of the Delivery Suite environment, be approachable and knowledgeable of managing emergency situations, experienced in training and mentoring staff as well as having proven leadership skills. Experience of operational management would be desirable.

You should have a clear commitment to current developments and initiatives within the Midwifery arena and sound knowledge of current issues in the public health agenda.

If successful in this role, there is a requirement for you to have a standard/enhanced DBS. This will be paid for by the Trust and then deducted from your salary over a period of 3 month.
As this vacancy is within the division of Women’s and Children’s, there is a mandatory requirement for successful applicants to join the DBS update service. The cost of joining the update service is £13 per year, and applicants are liable to cover this cost with no reimbursement from the Trust.
