Guildford Chamber Choir wishes to appoint a Principal Conductor with effect from 1 September 2025.
The choir is an auditioned project choir, meeting usually for six two-hour rehearsals on different weekday nights before each concert. Founded in 1980, the Choir aims to bring to Surrey audiences a wide range of music performed in fresh and exciting ways, all the time aiming for the highest standards.
We normally give three main concerts each season, usually on Saturdays. Recent concerts have featured music from the Italian Baroque and unforgettable performances of Bach's St Matthew Passion and B Minor Mass. More unusual pieces include The Vespers by 17th Century Milanese nun, Chiara Cozzolani. We have sung Duruflé and Brahms Requiems, German Romantic Music, and much by Vaughan Williams, as well as Handel's Dixit Dominus, Israel In Egypt, and Messiah. Summer Concerts have featured Scandinavian Music, Britten, and George Shearing. Much more is on our website: Guildford Chamber Choir.
The choir usually makes a biennial overseas tour (Freiburg-im-Breisgau in 2023) and often sings services at Cathedrals when their choir is on leave, most recently in Canterbury Cathedral.
The planned timeline is:
* Closing date for applications: 11 April 2025
* Interviews for shortlisted applicants: 10 May 2025
* Audition conducting the choir: 22 May 2025
* Final offer to successful applicant: End of June 2025
* First concert to be conducted: Autumn Concert, 1 November 2025
