An exciting opportunity is available to fill the role of Ward Manager on Minster Ward, Foss Park Hospital, York, YO31 8TA. The role is also expected to cover the Duty Nurse Co-Ordinator role which involves working a weekend day shift but will be replaced with a weekday off.
Minster Ward is an 18 bedded adult male acute psychiatric ward. The successful candidate will be a highly motivated qualified mental health practitioner with sufficient experience of working in adult mental health and experience of managing and motivating a multi-disciplinary team at a minimum band 6 level.

Foss Park Hospital is a new hospital that opened in 2020, set in the beautiful city of York. It has other wards and teams on site to support the service as well as a well established Senior Leadership Team.
The person in post will receive regular managerial supervision and encouragement to reach personal and professional goals. The person will work with their peers from the other inpatient ward, community, crisis and other team leads. The ward has an established leadership team that includes working with Non Medical AC's, Consultant Psychiatrist, Occupational Therapy, Consultant Psychologist. The nursing team comprises of nurses, nursing assistants and Peer support workers.
Main duties of the job
The role is well supported by an established, professional and friendly MDT. Applicants must hold a professional registration and have inpatient experience including leadership or management. You will need to demonstrate strong leadership skills and be a role model to others to join our highly motivated and enthusiastic team.
As well as providing direct management supervision, a significant part of this role will be leading the team and managing the general running of the ward.
The successful candidate will also be expected to be part of the Duty Nurse Coordinator rota (which includes some weekend working).

Person Specification
Qualifications
* Current professional registration with Nursing & Midwifery Council (RMN / RNMH / RNLD)
* Be educated to Master's level in a subject area relevant to the area of practice OR
* Have equivalent clinical experience to that of master's level such as working as a band 6 (or above) in relevant clinical area with significant experience - which also includes significant experience of managing people. (see below under experience), together with evidence of relevant CPD
* Be trained in Clinical Supervision and providing clinical supervision
* Be a Recognised Practice Assessor/Practice Supervisor
Knowledge/Skills/Experience
* Knowledge of current issues relating to health needs of patients in the field of practice, regionally and nationally
* Research methodology
* The Trust's Quality Improvement system (QIS) - or completion of training within agreed timescale
* Governance and its application in practice
* Understanding of psychological models of care and treatment (depending on specialist area)
Experience
* Significant experience of managing people
* Significant experience working with patients with complex needs in the specialist field
* Significant experience working with patients who display risk behaviours
* Working collaboratively with others (external partners, staff, service users and their families/carers)
* Working knowledge of the legal framework and statutory obligations under the Mental Health Act, Mental Capacity Act and other relevant legislation
* Detailed understanding of Safeguarding and its application in practice
* Risk assessment and management and its application in practice
* Working knowledge of clinical medicines management
* Developing, maintaining and auditing practice standards
* Evidence of training in Quality Improvement methodology or coaching, and/or using same in quality improvement
