Sr. Power Electronics Engineer
Contract: 6-12 months+
40 hours weekly, US Citizenship required, NO Dual citizenship
Additional Job Requirements:
* Must be local to the office and able to support flexible in-office work. Full-time remote employees will not be considered.
* Active clearance preferred. Strong candidates without an active clearance will be considered but must be able to obtain a secret clearance upon starting.
The Senior Power Electronics Engineer designs, specifies, develops, and tests power system architectures and requirements for applications such as miniature power conversion, distributed power architectures, radiation-hardened designs, novel battery management circuitry, small motor controllers, switched-mode power conversion, and precision feedback systems. They participate in the planning and design phases of system specifications and requirements.
Duties and Responsibilities
1. Design, develop, and build power system architectures.
2. Research, design, develop, and test hardware including miniature power conversion and management circuitry, distributed power architectures, and radiation-hardened designs.
3. Optimize system designs for size, weight, and power reduction.
4. Design new products and develop technical specifications for production.
5. Analyze hardware configurations and processing solutions; test hardware for conformance to specifications.
6. Develop and maintain effective internal and external relationships.
7. Independently develop solutions to complex problems, including unclear or incomplete customer requirements, and adapt to changes.
8. Serve as Subject Matter Expert (SME) for advanced power electronics architectures and designs.
9. Participate in business development and proposal activities.
10. Identify technical risks at the program/system level and develop mitigation strategies.
11. Manage multidisciplinary tasks with multiple engineers and communicate effectively with project leadership and customers.
12. Develop, document, and teach best practices to less experienced engineers.
13. Demonstrate strong organization, planning, and time management skills to meet program goals.
14. Perform other related duties as assigned.
Skills and Abilities
* Knowledge in areas such as dc/dc power conversion, rectification, inversion, battery management systems, motor controllers, power distribution, grounding/shielding, and EMC techniques.
* Experience designing and troubleshooting power electronics.
* Proficient with schematic capture and PCB layout.
* Ability to perform circuit simulation using Spice or similar tools.
* Experience with system modeling and analysis using MATLAB, Simulink, or comparable tools.
* Strong understanding of applied math and physics.
* Excellent analytical, problem-solving, organizational, and communication skills.
* Ability to produce detailed documentation.
Education and Experience
Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering or related field required; Master's degree preferred. 5-7 years of experience in Power Systems Engineering or related field.
