An exciting 9 month secondment opportunity has arisen at the Bright Satellite Dialysis Unit for a Registered Nurse, Band 5 for 37.5 hrs. per week to cover maternity leave. The Unit has 15 haemodialysis stations and is open 6 days a week Monday – Saturday and has 3 shifts per day (Early, Late and Twilight).
We are a friendly, professional unit with a strong team ethic delivering a high standard of nursing care to our patients. You will have the responsibility to care for a group of patients each shift and partake in all aspects of haemodialysis patient care as well as have a group of patients as a named nurse to oversee their blood results and overall care. A strong sense of teamwork and excellent communication skills are essential for the role. Support will be given to achieve your haemodialysis competencies if not already completed and develop your skills in all aspects of haemodialysis care over the secondment.
Main duties of the job
Working within our department, your main duties will include:
* Organising and participating in the delivery of high standards of evidence-based nursing care.
* Taking responsibility to carry out required planned, direct patient care to a high standard without direct supervision, in accordance with established nursing procedures and policies.
* Contributing towards the health promotion for all patients by providing education, support and advice as necessary, ensuring referral to appropriate professionals or agencies as required.
* In the absence of senior staff, taking responsibility for the delegation and supervision of appropriate work to other qualified staff, healthcare support workers and students.
* Co-ordinate a shift on a regular basis to develop leadership and management skills with the support of senior colleagues.
* Undertake named nurse responsibilities for a group of patients monitoring their renal treatment and care interventions from the wider multidisciplinary team.
* Taking personal responsibility for treating all patients with courtesy, respecting their individual needs, and maintaining confidentiality at all times.
* Ensuring provision of a safe and therapeutic environment for all patients, relatives, visitors, and colleagues.

Knowledge, Training Experience and Skills Required
* Registered nurse with current NMC licence to practice.
* Evidence of continued professional development, a professional portfolio and participation in appraisal and development review.
* To have achieved a recognised teaching & assessing qualification.
* Completion of training for additional clinical skills required in the ward/department.
* Evidence of attendance at mandatory training appropriate to the role.
* Competence in the use of computers and electronic communication systems or expectation to develop existing skills further as the needs of the service dictate.
Person specification
Ed/ Training/Quals
* Registered Nurse
* Intravenous Drug Administration Certificate
* Completion of renal competencies
* Renal course or equivalent
Work Experience
* Previous experience in an acute hospital setting
* Experience in using hospital computer systems
* 6 months renal haemodialysis experience
Knowledge/skills/abilities
* Interest in teaching and evidence of participation in learning activities
* Ability to adapt to variety of workload demands
The successful applicant(s) will normally commence at the minimum of the scale unless they have previous NHS service at the same band. Progression through the scale is by annual increments.
