The post holder will perform specialised clinical neurophysiological procedures to a high standard, advanced analysis of test results, report on outcomes and advise clinicians as required.
To deputise for the Head of Department as and when required. Must be able to work unsupervised.
Main duties of the job
1. Independently perform digital EEG's with video recordings on patients with routine monitoring of EEG plus activation procedures if not contra-indicated.
2. Perform EEG recordings to a consistently high level and with appropriate amendments as required, on neonates, paediatrics and patients of all ages and with additional needs.
3. Carry out highly specialised portable EEG recordings on Wards/Intensive Care/High-Dependency Unit.
4. In-depth analysis of ambulatory EEG, annotating and pruning relevant sections for consultant review as required.
5. Competent and confident in providing provisional reports on investigations if clinically urgent and appropriate - both normal and abnormal, to other medical staff in the absence of off-site consultants.
6. Ensure reports are sent out in a timely manner to all relevant parties, in accordance with local policies/departmental protocols.
7. Ensure the technical quality of assessment complies with published national guidelines.
8. Maintain and expand competencies to remain state registered.
9. Responsible for CPD and achieving goals set in IPR appraisal plus ensuring mandatory training is up to date.
10. Perform clerical duties and assist Lead Physiologist in day-to-day running of department and managing service provision.
11. Partake in training of students/other medical/non-medical staff as required.

Job responsibilities
Main Duties and Responsibilities
1. Independently perform digital EEGs with video recordings on patients with routine monitoring of EEG plus activation procedures if not contra-indicated.
2. Perform EEG recordings to a consistently high level and with appropriate amendments as required, on neonates, paediatrics and patients of all ages and with additional needs.
3. Perform EEGs for sleep-deprived/sleep recordings within the department, liaising with parents/ patients to ensure optimum results on an individual basis.
4. Carry out highly specialised portable EEG recordings on Wards/Intensive Care/High-Dependency Unit.
5. Monitor the EEG changes if required during administration (by clinician) of any medication in the department or on the wards/ITU.
6. Confidently perform specific 16 channel 2472-hour ambulatory EEG recordings independently, a significant number being on paediatric patients with a wide range of abilities.
7. In-depth analysis of ambulatory EEG, annotating and pruning relevant sections for consultant review as required.
8. Report on all tests, analysing data and writing comprehensive factual reports.
9. Competent and confident in providing provisional reports on investigations if clinically urgent and appropriate both normal and abnormal, to other medical staff in the absence of off-site consultants.
10. Liaise with internal and external medical, nursing and healthcare professionals regarding patient care and management.
11. Triage and prioritise patient referrals from all sources.
12. Ensure reports are sent out in a timely manner to all relevant parties, in accordance with local policies/departmental protocols.
13. Ensure data quality by undertaking equipment calibration for tests performed within the department.
14. Ensure the technical quality of assessment complies with published national guidelines.
15. Work alongside Head of Department, attending meetings as required and cascading information relevant to the service/learning.
16. Maintain and expand competencies to remain state registered.
17. Participate in relevant audits as required to enhance service provision at department/Trust/inter-departmental/National level.
18. Keep up to date with new developments/equipment within specialist Neurophysiology field and attend relevant national and inter-departmental meetings as part of CPD.
19. Assist in the planning and implementation of further specialist services for the neurophysiology department - researching and reviewing protocols and practices to maintain highest standards.
20. Responsible for CPD and achieving goals set in IPR appraisal plus ensuring mandatory training is up to date.
21. Responsible for maintaining good working order of all equipment adhering to Trust health and safety policies. Monitor and manage routine maintenance of equipment, ensuring repairs carried out as necessary with minimal disruption to patient care/service.
22. Perform clerical duties and assist Lead Physiologist in day-to-day running of department and managing service provision.
23. Partake in training of students/other medical/non-medical staff as required.
24. Monitor and maintain department stock levels.

Person Specification
Qualifications/Knowledge
* BSc in Clinical Physiology / ECNE Part 1 / AHCS State registered
* Specialist expertise underpinned by theory and experience
* Scientific knowledge acquired through formal training to Clinical Physiologist degree level or equivalent
* Knowledge of specialist procedures and equipment
* Knowledge of Infection Control & Safeguarding processes
* ANS/BSCN member
Experience
* Extensive experience in Neurophysiology departments. Dealing with wide range of complex information, analysis, interpretation and comparison for reporting results.
* Written reports for all investigations in an accurate and timely manner.
* Confident to provide verbal reports for urgent clinical situations both normal and abnormal in absence of consultant availability.
* Experience of first aid in clinical emergencies.
* Experience of risk management/health and safety processes.
* Experience of supporting Quality Improvement/audits/research and development activities.
