Job overview
An exciting new opportunity has come out as a Senior Laboratory Technician within the NIHR St George's Clinical Research Facility (CRF). As a CRF lab technician, you will work directly with the CRF Operations and QA Manager and the wider research delivery team, and will be responsible for the management of samples processed within the clinical research facility, the maintenance of the Ultra-Low Temperature Freezers, and other storage systems. You will also be responsible for writing robust Standard Operating Procedures related to this area of practice.
Main duties of the job
Your responsibilities as a CRF Senior Laboratory Technician include reviewing and following clinical trial lab protocols to undertake pre-analytical preparation of biological samples (i.e., centrifugation and pipetting, PBMC isolation). These samples are subsequently stored, then shipped to central laboratories around the world. You will adhere to Good Clinical Practice (GCP) and Good Clinical Laboratory Practice (GCLP) guidelines when working in the laboratory, as well as adhering to trust and CRF SOPs, policies, and UK national regulations for clinical research. An awareness of COSHH and health & safety policies is essential.
The CRF Laboratory is central to research delivery staff in the CRF and the wider hospital research teams, and external sponsors. You will train research delivery staff in research laboratory processes and complete and maintain crucial source documents alongside the practical undertaking.
