The role
An excellent opportunity is available for a specialist technician in the Health and Life Sciences Flow Cytometry Facility. You will be supporting and enabling the operational delivery for the experimental design, data analysis, and high dimensional cell phenotyping being undertaken within the Facility.
You will be part of a small team providing key technical support for the daily operations of the facility, working with colleagues, including Principal Investigators, to provide specialist services operating and maintaining the instruments in the facility.
The Flow Cytometry facility plays a critical role for research in areas including immunology, cancer biology, regenerative medicine, microbiology, cardiovascular medicine, chemistry and synthetic biology.
What will you be doing?
You will provide specialist technical support for the daily operations of this critical research facility including ensuring that the instruments are set up on a daily basis to specific facility standards. You will carry out cell sorting on behalf of facility users. You will be involved in assisting in training and guidance for facility users, both staff and students, and troubleshooting issues as necessary.
You will ensure that sourcing and maintaining of stocks of lab materials, consumables and maintenance of the instruments by liaising with specialist contacts and suppliers to ensure the needs of users and the facility are met.

* A detailed knowledge and experience in flow cytometry and related research techniques
* Excellent organisational skills with the ability to manage and prioritise a range of ongoing tasks at the same time

* Be consistent in maintaining a high level of accuracy and precision in all areas of work
* A commitment to customer care and to providing a high quality service
* In-depth knowledge of flow cytometry and/or cell sorting, experience with BD instruments such as the X-20, FACS Aria and Influx systems will be a particular advantage.
Contract type: Fixed term maternity cover until 31/05/2026
Salary: £30,805 to £35,116. Grade G, per annum
