We are a rural, friendly GMS Practice serving around 5200 patients.
Our team includes 3 GP Partners, 3 Practice Nurses and a HCA.
We are looking for a professional, conscientious, and highly effective Pharmacist to join us for two days per week to manage our Practice Dispensary.
Salary dependent on experience.
Main duties of the job
To manage the day to day running of the Practice Dispensary and Staff. To provide input into Dispensary policies and procedure adhering to local guidance.
Job responsibilities
Key Tasks
1. Liaise with wholesalers to get the best prices and details, including checking the drug tariff for price and category changes monthly and ensuring that information is up to date on discontinued drugs.
2. Meet with Drug Reps, GP Partners, and Practice Managers.
3. Manage dispensary staff.
4. Manage dispensary protocols.
5. Maintain and update the S1 PLS Drug Formulary, adding new drugs and monitoring patients' repeats.
6. Deal with prescriptions that are being sent to NHS Prescription Services.
7. Complete the Dispensary Services Quality Service annual audit.
Job Responsibilities
1. Ensure staff are competent and safe to dispense.
2. Ensure all Standard Operating Procedures and clinical guidelines are up to date.
3. Ensure that stock is maintained to an appropriate level and stored according to protocols.
4. Ensure that the CD Book is correct and up-to-date at all times.
Staff Management
1. Organise dispensary staff rotas and ensure adequate staff cover at all times.
2. Train dispensary staff, including encouraging and organising attendance on relevant recognised courses.
3. Appraise dispensary staff.
4. Assist the Practice Manager with the recruitment of dispensary staff.
Business Aspects
1. Ensure team process all prescriptions within appropriate timescales.
2. Order medication needed and check off incoming medications.
3. Ensure all invoices are forwarded onto the Practice Manager in a timely manner.
4. Operate efficient stock control appropriate to the needs of the practice.
5. Review drug supplier deals and offers on a regular basis and change procurement where needed to ensure value for money and maximum profitability when purchasing stock.
6. Communicate confidently and professionally over the telephone when dealing with patients, practice staff, and partner organisations (other local pharmacies, hospitals, GP Practices, and suppliers etc.).
7. Undertake any other necessary work as may be required and appropriate to maintain a high standards and efficient dispensing service.
Purchasing and Stock Control
1. Order stock on an ad hoc daily basis.
2. Order generic stock on a weekly basis.
3. Check price concessions and order as necessary on a weekly basis.
4. Check injectables held in the dispensary and order as necessary on a weekly basis.
5. Check the monthly statements.
6. Maintain adequate stock, ensuring timely stock rotation.
Drug Company Representatives
1. Liaise with drug company representatives on an ad hoc basis.
2. Meet regularly with drug company representatives, in order to ensure the best possible discount levels.
3. Analyse drug discount schemes and ensure both sites are signed up to each one.
4. Destruction of drugs.
