You will join the recently created TRACTEBEL entity in the UK, with very ambitious goals and exceptional projects. Created to support projects localised in the UK, the entity’s mission is to promote TRACTEBEL as a key player of the nuclear business in the UK. TRACTEBEL is a key player for the detailed design of the Nuclear Island at Hinkley Point C (HPC) and Sizewell C (SZC), some of the world’s largest construction projects. As well as our flagship projects, TRACTEBEL also has a pipeline of other projects in the nuclear industry to feed our expansion in 2024 and 2025. The OPPORTUNITY
We are looking for motivated and experienced Senior/Principal Mechanical Engineers to work on the design of the Hinkley Point C (HPC) and Sizewell C (SZC) nuclear powerplants, as well as our future pipeline of projects. You will provide your mechanical expertise to successfully deliver our projects, in collaboration with clients, contractors, stakeholders and our project teams.
Key Responsibilities
1. Providing technical leadership and team management to deliver work packages effectively.
2. Coordinating and communicating on complex engineering problems between project stakeholders.
3. Working within a team responsible for a number of design elements, where you will conduct or review work on the following topics:
1. Engineering and design of mechanical structures and components, including seismic design.
2. Structural integrity assessment of mechanical components to British Standards, RCC-M and ASME Section III Codes for the construction or operation of new/existing nuclear power plants.
3. Finite element analysis for thermal and pressure fatigue evaluation of mechanical and piping components according to RCC-M and ASME requirements.
4. Support clients to safely restart their nuclear power plant units through prompt and sensible assessment.
5. Analysis/design of components, including pumps, valves and supporting structures.
6. Calculation of piping components, including classified components for existing or new structures.
7. Other: Fracture mechanics studies, ageing of structures and components, design and calculation of anchorage elements, seismic margin assessment of existing structures (SMA, SPSA), seismic qualification of active components.
4. Writing and reviewing of component technical specifications (performance, scope of supply and limits of supply definition, design requirements, applicable criteria to be fulfilled, etc.).
5. Providing technical review and responding to site queries and requested changes in a dynamic and fast-paced environment to support contractor activities on HPC site.
6. Developing strong relationships with clients and stakeholders.
7. Supporting the business development team during the tendering process for our future project stream.
Your Profile
To be successful in this role, the ideal candidate would meet the following requirements and criteria:
1. Bachelor’s or master’s in Mechanical Engineering.
2. Chartered or working towards Chartership with the IMechE, or with equivalent experience.
3. Significant experience in structural analysis and design of structural components.
4. Minimum 10 years of professional experience, including 5 years working in the nuclear industry.
5. Working familiarity with relevant technical Codes of Practice and Industry Standards (Eurocodes, British Standard, RCC-M and ASME).
6. Experienced in general purpose finite element and structural design software (e.g. PIPESTRESS, BEAMSTRESS, ANSYS, SYSTUS etc.) for static or dynamic loading, linear or non-linear analysis.
7. Proactive individual who can work collaboratively within a multicultural team.
8. Agile and self-motivated, with a focus on improving personal and team performance and able to generate innovative outcomes to challenges.
9. Experience working on major infrastructure projects and can demonstrate ability to deliver high quality work packages to schedule.
10. You enjoy new challenges and are keen to learn and willing to take responsibility whilst also wanting to support others within our team.
