To support the users of the Forensic Psychiatry service with a range of practical, health and social issues under the supervision of a senior member of the team, such as Occupational Therapist or other Mental Health Practitioner.
Work with service users in a variety of settings to facilitate access and engagement in a range of community-based activities.
Develop a rapport based upon championship and friendship, but within appropriate and transparent boundaries.
Help users gain access to resources including benefits and welfare rights.
Help to identify early signs of relapse by monitoring users' progress, level of functioning, and mental state and alert the appropriate staff involved in the individual's care.
Attend meetings internal and external to the Trust when deemed appropriate by the senior clinician involved or team manager.
Maintain adequate records as required by existing procedures, entering appropriate details on the service users' case notes as necessary.
Attend and participate in team/care plan review meetings as appropriate.
Develop good working relationships with other organisations that are able to help individuals achieve their goals, including colleges, schools, other training providers and voluntary agencies, the inpatient units, and community services.
Person Specification
Education and Qualifications
Essential Criteria:
1. Good general education
2. Level of educational attainment to NVQ 3/AS Level or equivalent.
Desirable Criteria:
1. Training in mental health or social care
2. Knowledge of relevant interventions
3. Willingness to undertake further training
Experience
Essential Criteria:
1. Experience of working with people in a mental health or social care setting
2. Experience of working with service users with mental health difficulties and/or learning disability
3. Experience of working in a team environment.
Desirable Criteria:
1. Experience of working in the public/third sector
2. Lived experience of mental health challenges
3. Experience of working with people in the Criminal Justice System
Physical Requirements
Essential Criteria:
1. Able to transport service users by car and travel with them on public transport
2. Able to work evenings and weekends on a rotational basis depending on service demands
Knowledge and Skills
Essential Criteria:
1. Good IT skills
2. Good communication skills with a range of people in a range of settings
3. Ability to form therapeutic relationships with clients and carers
4. Ability to manage stress in a work environment
5. Understanding of the principles of Recovery and safeguarding as related to mental health
Desirable Criteria:
1. Knowledge of Mental Health Act
2. Knowledge of benefits and employment services
3. Knowledge of NHS record keeping systems
4. Knowledge of local community resources
