Job Purpose:
We are seeking a highly motivated individual with a passion for science and experience in material/product testing to join our global technology team and support our Technical Centre in Blackburn, Lancashire. You will work alongside a team of engineers/scientists to carry out research, advanced geotechnical performance testing, data analysis and reporting on new and existing products and play a key role in increasing the throughput of performance testing for a wide range of products.
Responsibilities:
1. Collaborate with a cross-functional team of engineers, scientists, and other specialists to conduct advanced performance testing of materials and geogrids, analyse data, and generate reports for new and existing products.
2. Independently manage and contribute to development projects, making decisions to progress the work.
3. Become an expert in various technical and testing activities, including:
1. Small-scale accelerated trafficking testing.
2. Large triaxial cell testing – monotonic and cyclic testing using DIC technology.
3. Creep testing using conventional, TTS, and SIM methods, to assess long-term design performance of new and existing products.
4. Contribute to new product development (NPD).
5. Ensure compliance with all applicable standards throughout the entire product development and testing process.
6. Contribute to the maintenance and calibration of laboratory and testing equipment.
7. Prepare clear and concise technical reports and presentations for a broad audience.
8. Contribute to the discussion, selection, and implementation of future development projects.
9. Interact with all relevant technical and non-technical areas of the company in an open and cooperative manner, supporting internal and external testing and research, and liaise with external institutions and facilities to access specialised resources.
10. Assist the Technical Centre Manager in the execution of his duties and work as a principal member of the global technology team.
Experience and Qualifications:
1. Degree in Civil Engineering, Engineering, Geology, or a science-related field.
2. 2-5 years experience in laboratory environments and/or prior experience with product or material testing.
3. Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.
4. A genuine interest in science, with a proactive attitude towards learning and self-development.
5. An enthusiastic, hands-on approach to engineering due to the physical effort required to construct and deconstruct a variety of large-scale civil engineering tests (with on-the-job training provided).
6. Good organisational skills with the ability to work independently and as part of a team.
7. Proactive and adaptable in an ever-evolving dynamic environment, with the ability to prioritise workloads to meet deadlines consistently.
8. Excellent interpersonal & communication skills (written & verbal), with the ability to interpret and present data/topics for a broad audience.
9. A solid understanding of Health & Safety measures.
