The Role
You will support the team to provide essential learning and accessibility support to young people and adults with SEN, which includes facilitating their access to and achievement of learning programmes, supporting their access to all College services and College-led activities, and facilitating personal development of learning/study skills and educational outcomes, including those relevant to individual Educational Health & Care Plans (EHCPs).
You will be required to provide person-centred learning support to students with severe and complex learning difficulties and/or disabilities, which may include supporting them with personal care where necessary. You may work with individuals or small groups and encourage students to engage with activities or work independently.
Skills and Experience
You will have good literacy and numeracy skills and the ability to establish and maintain good working relationships with students, teachers, parents/carers, and other agencies involved with the students. Experience of working in a multi-cultural environment and an understanding of safeguarding and discrimination issues, as well as the difficulties faced by those with learning difficulties, are essential.
You must be willing to assist learners with regards to their personal care and mobility, taking instructions from learners regarding their support needs. You will have excellent interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to establish good working relationships. You'll also have exceptional organisational skills combined with good IT knowledge and sound administration skills. Experience of working with SEN learners in a secondary or FE environment is desirable.
