An exciting opportunity has arisen to support patient flow within Children’s Services & Maternity through the seven day week.
We are seeking to appoint an enthusiastic, dynamic and well-organised Patient Flow Manager to support within this fast-paced environment.
The post holder will be dedicated to delivering a high standard of care, able to demonstrate excellent interpersonal and communication skills, and willing to develop their skills and knowledge. They will also be able to co-ordinate and collate real time information on current and predicted bed availability, and facilitate the effective use of acute Paediatric hospital and hostel wide bed capacity. The post holder will work independently, using their own initiative and judgment. The successful candidate will have sound and effective decision-making skills and the ability to work as part of a team.
This role is central to the flow of patients within the Division and meeting the national waiting times for the emergency department and elective patients.
Working hours are 07:30 – 20:30 Monday to Friday and 08:00 – 18:00 Saturday to Sunday on a shift rotation system to ensure adequate bed management cover for the department. The successful candidate will need to have the ability to work flexibly to cover the department.
1. To effectively co-ordinate elective and emergency admissions to Children’s wards.
2. Maintain an up-to-date record of unit bed state and report regularly to Operations centre.
3. To liaise regularly with medical, administrative and managerial staff ensuring the systematic booking of elective patients into ward diaries taking into account patient priority.
4. To liaise regularly throughout the day with all children’s areas, ED/F3 to ensure appropriate and timely allocation of vacant beds.
5. To work closely with medical teams to expedite discharges.
6. To effectively manage the on-site patient hostel accommodation, liaising with Sanctuary Housing, consultant teams/secretaries, wards and patients.
7. Arrange cover with neighbouring hospitals during bed shortages, disseminating this information to relevant members of staff throughout the Trust.
8. Deliver a high standard of service ensuring that all members of the Public, GP’s and other hospital departments are communicated with in a helpful and courteous manner.
9. Be responsible for checking the ward diaries every day for cancellations, liaising with the Waiting List office/Secretaries to ensure this information is available.
