Across the sites of Barking and Dagenham, Havering, and Redbridge University Hospitals Trust (BHRUT), we are pleased to offer a number of exciting opportunities for Physiotherapist Assistants with a special interest in Orthopaedics and Surgery at a Band 4 level, to join our friendly and highly skilled team of Physiotherapists, Occupational Therapists, and support staff on a full-time basis.
The post will include working with elective orthopaedic inpatients, the elective surgery pre-assessment team, elective patients from other surgical specialties, and our developing prehabilitation service for elective joint replacements as well as delivering joint replacement education sessions pre-operatively.
The successful candidate will be able to assess and discharge patients independently as well as provide advice and support to patients and family members. They will have excellent communication and reasoning skills. The post involves close working with the MDT to provide evidence-based patient-centred care in a variety of settings. In return, you will receive regular supervision and support, as well as training and career development opportunities.
Due to recent investments, this is a new exciting time within the team, with lots of opportunities for involvement in service development as we work towards the goal of establishing the best care and treatment for our patients throughout their journey at BHRUT.
Main duties of the job
* To accept routine patient referrals to orthopaedics and surgery and assess and treat according to protocols and guidelines.
* To work independently with access to supervision as required and maintain close communication with the therapy team to facilitate patient care.
* To actively lead and co-ordinate the Therapy Assistant in-service training programme.
* To actively participate in team and departmental in-service training and work alongside qualified therapists in the induction of new staff.
* To carry out other duties deemed necessary by the lead clinician in discussion with the post holder to ensure adequate provision of service.
* The post will include weekend and twilight working.
Person Specification
Education/Qualifications
* Good standard of general education, to G.C.S.E. level or equivalent.
* Evidence of recent relevant and appropriate training and CPD.
Skills/Abilities
* Ability to work on own initiative and manage own caseload.
* Willing to work in community and hospital settings.
* Ability to communicate information (verbal, non-verbal, and written) in an accurate, clear, and logical manner.
Experience/Knowledge
* To have 2 years of experience working as a Therapy Assistant in Health or a similar post.
* To have experience as a Therapy Assistant, preferably within the specialty of orthopaedics.
* Previous work in the community.
