Are you a Trained Nurse looking for an exciting opportunity to develop your skills and support research at SFT? This opportunity is for a Nurse to work within the Research and Development Department supporting a range of both non-commercial and commercial research studies across the Trust, with particular emphasis on the cardiology department.
We value our Research Nurses highly, so development and training within this role will be offered and prioritised so that the post holder can conduct research safely as part of the South West Research Network. Providing a career pathway for further development within Research.
The post holder will be supported to utilise a patient centred approach, have excellent communication skills and be accountable for the assessment, planning, organisation and ongoing care of research participants whilst maximising compliance. Supporting patients through the research process complying with legislation, policies and procedures.
Main duties of the job
The post holder will be involved in the safe conduct of research in cardiology and potentially other areas of research as part of the South West Research Network. They will support the selection and recruitment of participants according to inclusion/exclusion criteria which are trial specific. They will provide specialist advice and support for all participants during the trial period, taking a patient centred approach. They will need to adhere to the ICH guidelines for GCP, regulations and Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for clinical research and related activities.
Excellent communication skills are required to liaise with the wider clinical care group and provide complex information in an understandable way to potential participants.
Attention to detail is required to ensure accuracy, completeness and timeliness of data collection so that studies are conducted both safely and effectively, meeting aims and outcomes of the study design and ensuring patient safety.
This position will require the post holder to be proactive and outgoing in promoting research to both clinicians and patients, giving both staff and patients the opportunities to be involved in research.
A flexible approach to working across disease areas and locations is required, following the patient pathway within SFT.

* Registered Healthcare Professional
* Must be able to communicate in English Language, both written and verbally appropriate to the post
* Ability to evaluate the significance of research
* Able to critically appraise and use validated results to improve practice
* Thorough knowledge of caring for patients with a variety of Medical and Surgical conditions
* Evidence of a good standard of Literacy / English language skills
Desirable
* Basic Understanding of research governance
* Basic knowledge of research methodology
* Knowledge of drug therapies used in General Medicine and Surgery
Experience

* Demonstrable, recent healthcare professional experience in General Medicine/Surgery
* Recent or current extensive experience of the care of patients in an acute setting.
